I don't know, if you look at all the pictures there are features on this camera that haven't been seen or found on any other Nikon camera, and the curves and knobs don't match any other Nikon camera either. So someone either went to extraordinary lengths to create a very convincing detailed illustration, or it's real. I guess only time will tell.

Nikon D4

Wow, certainly a goober worthy update.

Dpreviews take on the D4.

More interesting to most people however is this. Sub $500 85mm 1.8 AF-S

...and look what else the D4 can do,...slick!

The D4 even gave Joe McNally a little b*ner, LOL.

The low light performance on the new D4 will likely be spectacular. However, I am surprised the MP aren't higher. Not saying it's needed, just surprised Nikon didn't boost it higher to play the marketing game a bit more.

However, I'm still staying with my trusty D300. :)

I think Nikon, like Canon, are creating two very distinct products. One for reportage etc, D4/1Dx, and one for landscape/commercial work D800/5D III. The megapixel monsters will be the later, pushing 36 +.

Also, I just noticed the D4 is sporting 16 bit files, up from 14. That's medium format territory for colour and tone reproduction, awesome! I hope that carries over into the D800.

Boy have I been yearning for the D800. Im still using a D300. But the rumors of sub 5fps is a bummer. The 700 is faster and gets plenty of use for both sports and arch/landscape/portraiture. Luckily I can't afford the D4!

Official release is tonight. The D800, much like the D4, looks like it's going to be a multimedia juggernaut as well as a landscape and studio dream.

Some key features that stand out for me.

36.3 megapixel full frame sensor. A second model the D800e comes with the low pass filter removed for the absolute maximum resolution possible. Which is great assuming your lenses are good enough to even resolve that much detail.
Face detect AF even when using the optical viewfinder.
AF possible with lenses and teleconverters with max apertures of f / 8 or smaller. Which means the D800 should be able to autofocus accurately with almost no light.
Transmission of an uncompressed clean HD signal straight out of camera at 8 bit, 4:2:2 colour.
Audio output jack for monitoring audio
Full magnesium alloy weather sealed body with a shutter rated to 200,000 cycles.

Pretty aggressive pricing IMO, yeah!!! I'll be placing an order for the 800E.

Nikon said:

Where can you order it from? Checked amazon and b&h and I can't find it. The d800 vs d800E makes a tough call. Hmm.
