I think it should also be noted that on the highway, your not driving at the top rpm of the motor, so say 2k rpm or 2500, somewhere in that area. The amount of air by volume required probably wouldn't be as much as imagined, and the motor should still have plenty of grunt to suck the air into the intake even with a low pressure behind the snorkel.

Also, there is science involved that may suggest that the air directly behind the snorkel head might just be "standing still" as compared to the speed of the air moving around it. Same concept with drafting on a race track or wingtip vortices on a plane

I think there would be a slight performance boost by having it forward making it similar to some sort of "cowl induction" but I would imagine the difference to be negligible at best

Not really a Nissan pic but I just had to post it! That is my brand new NV4500 with an adapter that allows me to bolt the Chevy 1ton trans to a Nissan SD33T diesel I have. With this plate I got, SD33T (the supercharged one) Scout SD33T bellhousing, NV4500 to Atlas t-case. Got everything in hand now to make this happen! Over 5yrs in the making!! :)

Cheers

Woot woot! Is it going in a scout II? Or something else?

Going in my 1983 Patrol. Using super built SD33T diesel from an 86 Patrol. Just using the Scout stuff to mate the NV4500 to the diesel. I am excited. Had engine built back in 2009/10 in Australia. Got new NV4500 and new Atlas last year in a trade. Bought adapter kit from Scout specialist back in 2009. Got a 2nd hand Scout engine plate, flywheel and bellhousing last October. Last bit of the puzzle is to work out clutch and then I am in business! Very excited as this is a 5+yr ordeal and I just can't wait to drive it with this combo. Big investment in this drivetrain which has taken much time, luckily expense spread out over years.

Cheers

That's awesome, that's a great place for a fuel can.
edit: Just got my gears turning on how to mount my can there and still use my softopper. Thinking I could rig up a narrow rack across the bed using some unistrut. I've got the frontrunner holder like that mounted up on my roof rack, 5 galons of gas is pretty heavy to lift overhead.

EJ, I don't have a closeup of it for you, but I made some fuel can tie downs to hold my jerry can securely under my topper. I used a 2.5" stainless eye bolt, a 2" stainless eye bolt, 4 fender washers, a wing nut, a regular nut, and two lock nuts. They're positioned perfectly for the size of my fuel can, and I used a cheap ratchet strap that I trimmed down to the right size. Fits perfectly and doesn't move even a bit.
