DOT only cares about how much light is showing, as long as u reach the minim light limit they wont bother you but there are some out there for my truck I just don't particularly like how they look.

The standard set my FMVSS-108 is concerned with minimum amounts of light, maximum amounts of light (measured at precise points), vibration resistance, water resistance, glare generated, and a host of other finer details. You won't find a quality unit other than OE for your truck.

Yeah that's the one, didn't know the actual code number. I have noticed that when I did some searching and posted on the Dakota forum, there is a set that works right but its $500, I'm not paying that much for lights lol.

Buddha.

Finally in expo white.
This seems like as good a sopt as any for my question.

How do Hella the 500 compare to the 4000? I was looking at the 4000 euro beam but the 500's are half the price and I don't see any explanation why.

EDIT:

Second question, maybe a silly one. Why are off road lights usually mounted in multiples? Why not just spend the money on one light that's twice as good.

I cant answer your first question but as for your second, when running at night you want as much light as possible since there is no light in the back country so you will see a minimum of 2 off road lights on rigs, the more lights you have the more you can see but there is a limit to where it just gets silly or surpasses what you really need for the situation you are in. Me for example I am looking to do a little bit of everything with my truck so for me, 2 hella 500's with the hid conversion on my bumper will be good for a general use and come spots above my roof to see down range and if I happen to be forwarding water that covers my bumper I still have light to see where I am going.
