Offroad Teardrop - SawTooth XL

What a great trailer... I have thought of building one, and this helps a lot... Will be looking for the next one that you build also. The shop is great, we all need one of those.

Here's an update...

Shop is sealed up for winter and I have my electrical permit in hand. Starting the electrical work this coming weekend. The Sawtooth XL is safe inside awaiting some repairs in the spring...

I've got a 3d model of the next trailer but that will have to wait until I start on it...

Man, this thread has it all. A sweet XJ, one of the nicest/most well thought out teardrop builds I've ever read, joblessness, hard work, and ultimately a new house and shop! It's like a fairly tale for guys.

Nicely done Sir!

Shop turned out nice, Like the cement driveway too.
Did the renters with Yappy dogs nexdoor move yet?

Thanks Mark - The driveway is about 20x24. Plenty big :) Dogs are still there... first order of business in the spring is a 6ft cedar fence! At least the neighbors are nice and not too red necky

Came out great Jess...

looks like a perfect spot to start Sawtooth XL II...:ylsmoke:

Thanks Pat - I have a couple Jeep projects before the next trailer but it will be started hopefully next year sometime.

Do you suppose you could put that shop on a truck and move it over to my house?

Sure... the shop is free... the shipping is pretty spendy though ;)

Thanks Dan - Lots of personal grief and triumph in this thread. One of the best parts about it is all the friendly and encouraging people on this forum that kept me going during the tough times...

Sawtooth v2.0 should be "Saw2th" no? :)

Nice :)

Hi Jess! I found this thread a couple if days ago and have spent I don't know how many hours of reading out through. :) And as a cabinet/furniture maker (i don't know if that's the correct word, google translate) I must say you have done a wonderful job! Just awesome! :) And congrats on buying the house (yeah I know it's a bit late but hey). I will definitely check to see if you have started a new trailer build. :)
As I said, beautiful build and it was lovely to see that you got to finish it (a bit nerve wrecking from time to time, will he get a job, will he be able to finish it) :-D
Thanks for all the pics and updates!

Thanks for the comments. :) This thread has a lot of personal grief and triumph in it...

The new trailer is all designed. Just waiting to finish the shop still and get a couple other projects done. Ive spent probably $20k on the shop in the last 2 years and its nearly done...

I have some serious drive train work to do to the Jeep over the winter. Hopefully by next spring/summer I can at least start on the frame for the new trailer... All I need is money :)

Here's an update on the shop. Working on my work benches. Lights are next...

If you wait on finishing the shop I can assure you you will have to wait forever, it's like a house, it will never be completely finished. :p Looks nice though. :)
I want to start making my Jimny into a miniature expedition rig but as you, a couple of other projects that has to be finished first. And I just spent my Saturday changing brakes... Boring!
I hope your Jeep gets fixed easily and cheep so you can put the money into more fun projects, unless the drive train fix is a fun one. :)
I'll keep my eyes open and look for updates and new threads from you. :)

This whole build has been amazing. I have done some seriously small wood projects and nothing with metal yet. I know I am capable but currently lacking the skill set. I would love to someday create something like this instead of purchasing something since there is so much more satisfaction from doing it yourself. Hopefully after this tour in Italy I can get something started. I applaud your patience and ingenuity when confronted with personal, professional as well as build issues. You seem to have your head screwed on as straight as can be, and you showed us we all don't need to be rich to do something like this. Thanks A LOT.
