Rin, are you on AEV or OME suspension besides the shocks? Either way you can't go wrong and either way your rig is SICK!

Thanks man! It is an AEV 3.5", JKS front trac bar & OME BP-51's combination. Very hard to beat for on road handling, off road capability & everyday driving longevity.

Which JB model is on the Jeep? I'm thinking about a Gobi or Frontrunner Rack with a JB tent. Just need to figure out which combo is best. I'd love an XXL but i'm worried it'll be to wide or heavy for a JKU. Thoughts?

Not Rin, but when I was deciding on a rack, it came down to usage with a hard top vs soft top. I love the Gobi and bought it so I could use it with whatever top setup I want, but if you aren't planning to use it with a soft top I'd go with a different route (it kills fuel economy and is pretty noisy).

If you are a hard top full time kinda guy, I'd recommend the Rhino Rack setup. I've seen a few JKUs with them and they're pretty slick.

Rino, while you're addressing the JB tent question, can you tell me what (if any) extra hardware or brackets were needed to mount the tent on the rack? I have the Rhino Rack and will be ordering a JB tent very soon. Just wondering if the tent attaches directly to the rack, or if anything has to be modded for the set up to work.

Great question I'm interested in this too. It looks like with a Gobi you'd have to run some kind of bar across the rack so the tent would clear the side bars. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm definitely curious.

Sorry for the delay guys! Just returning from Moab and catching up with the work madness.

The tent on my JKU in the shots above is the Extreme Evo, but I'm constantly switching tents for R&D ;) All of the non XXL tents will basically fit the profile of the JKU hard top perfectly.

The James Baroud hard shells fit the Rhino Rack BackBone & AEV (Rhino Rack) platforms perfectly. We worked with them originally and the tent requires no modifications to bolt to the platform and it fits the tent dimensions exactly. IMO it could not be any easier, I remove my freedom panels and have a friend help me slide the tent up top. From there the front clamps are easily reached from below in the driver's seat. The rear clamps are accessed from standing on the rear bumper under the platform. I can make a quick video if it helps also.

The GOBI rack is the best solution for the dual top crowd, however like JJ stated it is noisy and tall. You will need two cross bars (Rhino Rack, Yakama, Thule) which will raise your COG and highway driving will suffer from increased drag.

Rin,

Can you speak to the Front Runner rack with he JB tents? I really like the full size of it, lower profile, accessories and light weight.

The front Runner is bomb proof, in regards to the James Baroud tents the F/R tent mount kit works great and it is a simple install. If I could get over the front a pillar mounts I would run one myself. My co-worker chuck had one on his LC 100 in order to run an Alu Cab Shadow Awn because it is the only rack stout enough to handle the load.

Regardless of what rack is right for you, feel free to message me and I would be happy to help a fellow Expo member out

Rin, that is going to be AWESOME!

To say I'm excited is an understatement! Brian and I have been in talks of this for over a year and what he has created is brilliant! The full system will include a plate system in the rear and a 60 delete section of the 2nd row. On top of that are two side cubbies replacing your current plastics in the rear and the ice box and drawer system above! :)

Also forget the drill and bits, 100% bolt in and the drawers and slides are all modular and can be moved and switched around as you please!

ooohhhh! Now you've peaked my interest! I LOVE the idea of ditching at 60% portion of the back seat and then doing something useful with the space. I have no need for that many seats whatsoever!
