Old Rovers Too Feeble?

Oil capacity does not make a motor better.
Well, let's think about this, maybe it does. The Rover 2.25 diesel, about 1/2 the displacement of the 2F, has a 6.5qt oil capacity. Not only that, it's peak torque is at 1750rpm. So obviously it's a better engine than the 2F, based on the important criteria.
My Perkins diesel, on the other hand, varies in quality, depending on which capacity oil pan is fitted.

See Matt? You should have just gotten a diesel Rover. :smiley_drive:

As for Land Cruisers, I'd probably be driving them if not Land Rovers. In the late 70's I found a BJ40 parked outside a garage near me in Virginia that I thought seriously about seeing if it was for sale, but it was a complete rust bucket. No idea where it was from, but it must have been driven in the ocean to rust out that fast. But the diesel was really appealing.

Haha, your logic. Its undeniable. You will make K5 a very happy man. Beware though, Im sure that he will be cooking up some nice name to call you.

I had a Land Cruiser up until last summer. When I moved to England, I sold it. It was a good truck and it was a diesel (BJ60). I dont miss it. The 3B was a great motor, or at least I thought it was. I revved to 4k very easily and once moving, could deliver me down the road at 70 to 75 without a problem. I changed the oil a couple of times. It must have been a lot :ylsmoke:

I did keep a set of axles though. I would love to throw them under my next project. Not because they are more than 10 splines but because I like the offset housings. I dont know why that went away. Its so nice to clear something with the front and know that you are still positioned for the rear.

That's one of the things I like about Series Rovers, front diff, transfer case low point and rear diff are in a straight line, so clear the front and you've cleared the rest. High center aside, of course.

I daily drove the 109 as my sole vehicle for a year—loved the truck, but as I said...it proved too feeble for my travels.

10 spline axles are scary, so are brakes that don't work very well in reverse.

To many people today are afraid to even check their oil, let alone plan ahead to modify their expedition vehicle to accommodate their demands. Anyone getting into a 40 year old vehicle and expecting 2013 abilities without updating needs their point of view, if not their vehicle, "adjusted".

The 2F is a diesel? Really? Again, I was unaware of that. I was under the impression that it is, and always has been, a gas motor.

Explain to me why the sky is blue. Why are tomatoes green and then red? If you had to punch Jesus, your Grandma, or your mom in the face, I mean, absolutely HAD TO or they all died, who would you punch in the face?

Sunlight is scattered as it reaches into the earths atmosphere. The shorter small wavelengths make us see blue more than any other color most of the time.

Tomatoes turn from green to red as the temperature changes and convinces the tomato to either spend more energy growing roots deeper to try to keep root temperatures lower. The plant moves its energy from ripening and creating carotene and lycopene pigments to growing more roots.

I'd punch Jesus. At least I'd have a chance he'd forgive me.

Not touching the actual subject. Lol.

the FJ is however upgraded with modern goodness. New seats... synthetic winch line? *Gasp* radial tires?

Even the wiring harness is using new plastics for insulation- not the old brittle insulation. The engine is getting modern engine oil, not the old oil from "back in the day." Its got detergents, stabilizers, wide operating temps.

who uses a dirty garden spade to open their oil?

That's what a feeble garden spade looks like.....
The "modern" spades will take care of your garden for you so as you're watching it work from the comfort of your airconditioned living room you can complain about how feeble the one that was in production for 25 years was.

Its an easy mistake to make. It doesnt say Fiskar of Gerber on it so the gear whores would not know what it actually is...

(yes, I know its an oil spout)

Cynical old bastard
and ARB fridge went in quick also Less feeble than my lil' old Minus 40:)

Not to mention a diesel engine after that Any idea what?

Either way I give you credit for being a great sport throughout this thread. I'll second that, good to see the youth of today taking it like a man!

And keep up with the entertainment please folks
