Hey, just curious as to if you still have plans on working on canadian maps in the future. im in no rush for a GPS system but so far your layout is my favorite.
Yes, I do still plan to compile map-packs for Canada. However, finishing up the US maps and adding additional features to the current software is ahead of it in the queue.
We've just released map-packs for NY/NJ, PA, NC/SC, WI, and MI for sale through our webstore. http://spatialminds.com
The total list of map-packs that are available now includes:
Global - Satellite Imagery - Course scale only - This is not aerial photography
United States - 1:100k and 1:250k maps for the entire US. Does not include detailed 1:24k maps.
DETAILED MAP-PACKS: Include 1:250k, 1:100k, and detailed 1:24k USGS maps.

The form factor depends on what you want to do. Regardless of form factor I recommend you get a GPS with the SIRF III chipset in it. For a simple, low cost USB GPS I recommend the GlobalSat BU-353 (~$36) or for a cleaner installation the MightyGPS Weatherproof GPS.
Can you create routes to follow? It would be awesome to have a GPS destination and then the software can create the route to the destination via OHV trails...it doesn't necessarily have to tell you when to turn if the arrow is accurate enough.
