Is anyone else having issues with the bed sliding out while driving up steep, rough grades off-pavement?
I'm considering installing some sort of removable stop/peg to keep the bed in place.

Cheers
I put a few plastic bags from the grocery store under the platform wedged in there and it keeps it in place. Plus I use the bags while camping to put trash away.

Do I want to get the full barn door extensions? Yes, yes I do. But do I REALLY want that expense and the hassle of install? Will I miss my tailgate that I often use to cook on or sit on? Quite the conundrum.

I use it daily to hang out in during lunch breaks and before work when I arrive early. Having full doors to walk out of the truck easily would be awesome. But maybe I'm just being picky.

I have gone through the same thought process and deliberation as well. The open one door and step in or out aspect is really tempting.

Thing is, the tailgate is like our porch. Great to hang out on with the rear awning, especially in rainy weather. And really extends the size of the camper space when down. We often dont even break out the camp chairs.

Sometimes I think a flatbed would be great, but the lack of the tailgate is a dealbreaker for us.

glad to hear i'm not the only one. i think if i get the little flip down bed step that AMP makes for trucks it'll help when I just need to get in or out quickly. Might alleviate some of my issue. Now that you mention it, I'm thinking about how much I actually use the tailgate to sit on when my wife and son are inside the camper playing chess or relaxing. Also on our last camping trip we had HEAVY drizzle by the beach and the awning helping keep us dry while I sat on the tailgate. I'll give it some more time and usage before going down that path.

I stripped out the back of my truck, I felt the drawer system and shelving was to heavy. I went ahead and rhino lined my bed. Then I made a folding shelf that I think will work for me. I also purchased a Camp Chef table organizer, and I used some pelican cases on my last outing.

I've been looking at those camp chef sherpa tables for awhile, I noticed @dirtnsmores also uses it in his set-up. What are your thoughts on it, would you buy it again? I'm trying to create a camp kitchen set-up that could be used inside the camper as well as easily removeable to use outside, but also able to store dinnerware and cookware inside it. I tired out the Dine-o-mite camp kitchen from Sylvan Sport (https://www.sylvansport.com/shop/dine-o-mite-camp-kitchen/) but felt it was too wobbly/unstable to leave set-up in the back of the truck while off-roading and returned it. Have any others come-across a great camp table w/ storage?

Also made the mistake of looking into snow peak IGT gear (looks so cool) but trying to avoid that expensive rabbit hole..

We have an OVRLND camper that should be done in a few weeks that we're super excited for. The guys at OVRLND are going above and beyond doing some custom stuff for us. It'll be living on a flat bed tundra.

Nicely done Tundra flatbed! I have some questions for you . . .

But first and foremost, I see from your profile you’re from Ruidoso? I know that area a bit from way in the past, and it’s really sad what’s happened there. I hope your weren’t terribly impacted personally. Is that Ruidoso in the background of the pictures with the fires still going? Let us know how you are doing there and how things really are for the town. It’s hard to tell from news reports exactly. Really sorry for all the destruction there.

We're north of Ruidoso by Nogal so we were out of the path of the fire. It was really bad in a few neighborhoods. It was always one of the realities for this area and people have been doing sand tables and exercises for that exact scenario for 50 years here. The majority of Ruidoso was not impacted by the fire but the area that was hit is destroyed. The fires are pretty much out now, we have been getting some heavy rain the last several days, but all that does is create havoc on an the drainages because the vegetation is gone but they are managing and mitigating that at this point.

The fire in the pictures was the blue 2 fire from several weeks ago. That fire did nothing but good in a previous burn scar, despite all the bad publicity.

I've had my camp chef sherpa table in the camper while offroading and it's stable, but I do add a few bungies hooked somewhere on the bed or camper walls so it doesn't budge. I absolutely love mine. Like you said it's easy to remove and right now I keep it near the tailgate so it's easy to access the storage bags from outside. I envisioned I would take this out when needed but so far I've been on three or four camping trips and it stays in the camper. We usually have a camp table set up outside and when I need the kitchen stuff, I just grabbed the bag and toss it out there. Super fricken easy. Remember there is also a huge zipper flap that lets you close up that whole storage area in one shot so the bags don't slide out. I usually leave mine open for easy access and occasionally they slide out, but if they're tightly packed they don't move too much.

I think I already posted this video here but if not, here is the setup:

Looks nice and clean in there. Love that upper shelf. If you raise the legs on the Sherpa table there's storage space underneath for flips, shoes, etc.

I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but it sure holds a lot of gear. Other than my cook stove, I have all my kitchen items packed inside. It seems pretty stable, and lite compared to the pelican case I was using prior. I am happy with it so far.

Well, I’m glad you weren’t directly impacted, but it still sucks for the area for sure. I know what you mean about the burn scar. They get really brushy as they come back, at least ours here in AZ can.

I really hope you’ll post some detailed pics of your flatbed camper when you get it installed. I’ve been thinking of going that direction in a year or two and had some discussions with Jay. Will be really interested to see how it comes out.

I like that flatbed —seems minimalist as far as the tray. Who built that? And, how long was the process to get it on your truck?

I’ve also been looking at shorty roof racks, but for my Double Cab. Sherpa makes a great one for Tacomas and I saw a shorter one now for Crew Cab Tundras like yours, but it’s still longer than I need. Is that your source and you shortened it, or did you source it elsewhere?

I'll definitely be posting more pictures when we get the camper. I am the owner of SOB Fabrication here in NM and we built the bed and roof rack here in the shop. The roof rack was built around my AT Atlas camper originally and I am going to have to extend it when I get the new camper on.
