I’m ordering one by February, maybe sooner. Still debating extra bedding height, full barn doors. Love having a tailgate but saw full barn doors in person and it was pretty nice. The extra bedding is nice but would be good to keep the camper a bit lower for the trails.

Any thoughts on those two options?

If anyone is sellling a used one for a gladiator let me know! Still considering used if I can find one.

We are very pleased with the half barn door set-up compared to the regular flip-up hatch. If we had a flat bed I would have considered full barn doors. We have the standard height for bedding and it is fine. We do pull the bedding down before collapsing the top, but leave the mattress up there with plenty of room. Since we travel on narrow , often overgrown tracks, the standard height is preferred. I like to keep things as tight as possible.

I have barn doors and extra bedding height and would recommend both. If you are not already planning on hatches on both sides I would give it some serious consideration. I got drivers side only and its probably my only regret that I did not get the passenger side too.

Hatches on both sides are exactly what I was going to do!

What size mattress do you leave up top? Is that with the bed platform extended or slide up as well? I notice on the website it states I need the 10" height for their 3" mattress. Then I have also read the 8" is fine with the 3" if you leave the bed platform extended, though then I would imagine I wouldnt be able to sit inside with the top down so that would be lame.

We are currently using an inflatable mattress that is about 2.5 - 3 inches thick when inflated. The mattress is folded in half when the bed extension is slid back into place for departure.
The plan is to get a foam mattress that can fold in half eventually...currently I'm working on insulation and wall/ceiling covering then light installation.

Things we are very happy we did (as a result of going over this thread in great detail and seeing them at Expo West):

1. Barn doors (halves) and having the first door opening on the passenger side instead of drivers.
2. Hatches on both sides. I passed on several used OVRNLD setups because they didn't have hatches and now that we have them I am so glad we do.
3. Rear Slider window to cab. So nice to be able to open and get airflow during rain. Our dog can go back and forth into the truck through it as well, and we can see out the front to see if someone is pulling into our camp site.
4. No windows on the rest of the frame portion of the camper.
5. Extra bedding height. We did +2 inches.
6. Maxxfan. I like it. I wish we had the remote control one but the exhaust only has worked great.
7. Clear vinyl windows are a no brainer.

Things I would have added are:
1. Solar gland (this was a pain to install later).
2. I'd have gotten anodized on the sides (silver or white). I like our bare aluminum but it does scratch easily.

Just my 2 cents,
1. Flip up rear door, I have a swing-out tire carrier, barn doors wouldn't have been beneficial to me.
2. Hatches on both sides? I am happy with one, but two would have been okay.
3. Rear slider window to cab? I had one on my last camper, and I rarely used it. So I couldn't justify the cost, and I have no dogs.
4. I went with the white painted siding and I like it.
5. Clear vinyl windows are nice.
6. Fabric headliner, I feel this should be standard on all models.
7. Awning mounts for batwing awning and shower awning.

Things I would have added or did add:
1. Extra bedding height, while I make it work, I wished I had gone with it.
2. A rear window on the flip up rear door, for viewing purposes.
3. Bolt my camper to the bed, will do later.
4. Gas struts, I had to purchase and installed them after the fact, and saved $150.
5. Daisy chain straps and extra lighting, I installed my own and saved $500.
6. Positive pressure vent, installed my own and saved $75.
7. Maxxfan Deluxe, I installed my own and saved $200.
8. Folding counter, installed my own 16" x 72" and saved $380.

I love this camper, and it will always be an evolving project.

Some people say a layer of coroplast in between will help with airflow and heat. A popular installer of overland gear said they don't bother with coroplast, they use heavy duty velcro with stickyback that can tolerate the heat and then a eternabond tape mounted across the entire front of the panel so wind doesn't get underneath. their customers haven't reported long term issues.

I have installed two flexible solar panels and used double sided tape directly to the camper on both. One of them got eternabond tape all around and is still going strong four years later. My current setup just has eternabond tape on the leading edge. It has been great for over a year.

One thing to consider is increasing the barn door height. We did this and it makes getting in and out easier. We also had them add a drip channel above the barn doors to move condensation away in the mornings, it was only an additional $30. Another little add on we did was having them install two eyelets on the front and side to attach the 270 awning straps to, which is nice. Also very inexpensive.

I am super happy with the camper all around, only thing I would have liked to get is the solar gland. Even though I don’t see us using it for a while I’m not really looking forward to installing it myself.

I have one of these panels on my roof and I used 1/8" camper mounting foam adhered to the back at 6" intervals for a small amount of standoff from the roof skin and then I eternabonded the front and back and a strip on the side. It's holding up well. I do think I lose some efficiency from heat but in Colorado is pretty minimal.

Has anyone transferred their OVRLND camper to a different truck and if so did you have any issues using a filler plate to make it fit? Considering moving to a F250 from a F150 and OVRLND tells it can be done, but it would need a 2" plate on the cab side.
