(partially) new Tundra coming?

That is what Toyota does, above all else. I mean, when have they not?

On the tank I am not hopeful. I've never understood why every modern full size truck does not have a factory option for twin tanks or at least 50 gallons. Do OEM's not yet know what we use trucks for? There is room under every one of em.

As stated, that may have been true 14 years ago. But it only took GM and Ford a couple years to match/beat them in a lot of areas. Its a solid truck still but lacks seriously in a lot of areas now and has for a while. The GM 5.3L kicks the Tundra's butt towing even though it has a 25hp/tq deficit because it has a modern transmission that can put it in its power band. I have the same problem with my 4.6L GX. It may make 300 hp but to get there you have to be at a very specific speed otherwise the transmission dumps you at 4000 rpm and it can't give you everything it has.
So they better come up with something really good if they plan on going on a 14 year vacation again.
And the current gen Taco. Lol. I test drove all the mid-sized trucks a couple years ago and the old Frontier made the Taco look bad. That engine and trans are a joke.

Seriously? Does frame rot ring a bell? Or that horrendous 3VZ 3.0 V6. I mean, I absolutely loved my first Gen Tacoma’s and 4Runners, but to say they had no dark times is very much incorrect.

i am part of the 2nd Gen 4Runner group on FB and they HATE the 3VZ. HATE it. Every day someone is posting up with a blown head gasket.

You don't think they'll keep 38 gal? Don't think they'd go backwards... unless the mpgs improve a lot.

I think I have enough room for 150 gal under my truck... ginormous amounts of empty space under there....

GM did. They only have a 24 gallon tank now I think. Luckily the new 3.0 Duramax seems to do extremely well and is priced extremely well(like $1200 over the 5.3L V8 and cheaper than the 6.2L), but I literally would not buy a current gas GM 1500 because the 24 gallon tank.

Its all about the GVWR and loaded weight I think. 12 gallons of gas is like 75 lbs and that is coming off an already low payload capacity.

Love the 38 gallon fuel tank on my ‘17 tundra. Fuel tank size was one of the reasons I passed on getting a tundra back in 2012 and went with a f150 ecoboost with it‘s 36 gallon fuel tank. All the options, payload, down low torque, and towing numbers also swayed me. Loved that truck,....at first. On our first long trip out of town with it, it broke down, the first of many break downs unfortunately. Sometimes, simplicity is just better.

What happened to your Ecoboost that it straight up broke down? They have their problems but not to the point of leaving people on the side of the road typically.

Is anyone here works at Toyota?

Can you guys give us a Tundra based 4x4 van? We don't need more trucks but the market is experiencing a severe lack of actual 4x4 affordable, reliable and comfortable vans.
The people, even the ones far from adventure / overlanding, will love it.
Millennials will be attracted too... (even more than they are attracted to Communism)

Market is lacking it because nobody wants it (Relatively speaking). Millennials have no money to buy a new one, and people that can afford it have no purpose for a 4wd cargo van. Look at the Nissan van. Although it doesn’t have 4wd, it’s frame/body and has truck drivetrain. Yet, sales are poor. Aside from Amazon delivery folks and small business owners, nobody wants a cargo van, period. If there were any significant market demand, they’d be at the dealers.

I'd suggest that if that were the case, there would be 4x4 vans already.

For some reason I thought Nissan was canceling their big Titan based van?

And their sales are nothing to write home about.... They are niche vehicles.

Ok. I was just pointing out that there are 4x4 vans already and apparently not niche enough that Ford decided to add it to the transit years after they came out. someone is asking for it.

There is a demand, not as much as it is in truck segment but there is some. This s why this year Ford will add a new RV trim for their vans. The package includes rotating seats, AWD, double battery and HD wiring etc.
Ford did this due to the increase demand on the vans and those specific options. I think the market it grew 22%. They really were surprised how much it grew.
The millennials are leading the charge, apparently. I am one of them and will buy one soon-ish.

The Ford Transit has 4x4(or maybe its AWD) as of last year and pretty sure the Mercedes Sprinter does.

Ford Transit AWD is very similar to what's in the Ford Escape and other Ford SUVs. There is no low gear but it can do surprisingly well with good tires.
As for the Sprinter, while technically it's got better 4WD system than Transit is ridiculously expansive and their diesel engine is far from relabel

I was a truck guy and wanted to get a new Tundra or F250 but It's much easier for me get a AWD/4DW van since it better suits my hobbies and activities which varies from upland hunting and driving around in rural America.
As much as I like trucks It's very easy to pull over a van and stay over night in almost every small town that going to a Walmart and pull up your roof tent and field toilet. Last year I saw a couple in Tacoma chased out form a parking lot after they started putting up their roof tent. They were so tired they had to seep in the car.
I know a van will always be behind trucks in terms of offroading, charm and charisma.

Toyota has got a huge infrastructure, a cult following and fan base. They won't have a trouble selling something a bit bigger than VW van with good payload and actual an 4X4 with A-Trac system.
This would allow us to tackle the BLM roads and such.

The Euro market is full with those awd/4wd vans, why not in the US?

Yes, Nissan NV is a great rig, ugly but very HD. They didn't make it a factory 4x4 unlike the Titan, which shares the parts with the NV. So this discouraged people to get an NV and than convert it, even though there is a Nissan authorized dealer in Utah that does the conversions. It's physiological moment, people don't want to go through some things that could have been done in the factory.
I am seriously considering a low mile NV.

For the disclaimer I am not a van lifer nor I am involved in some other hipster abominations. I still love trucks.

I admire your tenacity and hopefulness @Highlander. You must be young and new the Toyota world. Anyone who's been in these circles for long has started a campfire story with "If I ran Toyota..." only be to let down time and time again. If only they'd have stuck with diesels, if only they'd have brought the 70 series, if only we got the Hilux or Prado. Pretty soon it'll be "If only they didn't stop selling the Land Cruiser in the U.S."
