...the Technician test. Should be getting my C/S this Thursday.

Not that there was any question about it, really. Super easy.

I got one book and then took multiple practice tests at AA9PW.com.

Now to start shopping for that dual band mobile! :drool:

If you do what I did (one practice test a day, minimum) then you will probably ace it. I think I missed one question.

The one thing that the AA9PW practice tests don't do, though, is explain why you got a question wrong. So for that I got a Gordon West book for about $20 on Amazon.com. He has all the questions from the question pool with their answers, but more importantly, he has the explanation for why the answer is what it is, which makes it much easier to remember.

Still, 75% of it is just knowing the FCC rules and then common sense things like why you shouldn't put an antenna near a power line or why you shouldn't touch an antenna while a radio is transmitting.

I will do that, thanks! Will probably need help setting up my mobile rig once I get it. I've never had a mobile before, although I had a couple of 2m HTs back in the 1990's when I was a Tech+.

Cool. I was planning to take the test Saturday but life interfered with that plan, so I'll try to get the one in September.
I've had my radio installed in the Jeep for awhile now, just haven't been able to do anything more than turn it on and listen.
My dad (W3WFE) gave me the West book and I've gone through it a couple times. I'll just need to spend some time reviewing.
My grandfather (W0WFE) has been involved with amateur radio for years and I'm really looking forward to getting into it.
I also will be involved with our community emergency response groups as I run the distribution side of our community blood bank and will need to coordinate with local officials in the event of a major disaster.

Passed mine today, congrats on your success! I used hamtestonline for study, cost is minimal and the test have many options.

Passed tech test couple of weeks ago. KJ6SAT. Have an FT-60 HT to play with, joined a local club and signed on to my first NET. Now trying to decide what to put into my rig. Certainly beats my CB for clarity of communications. Looking forward to taking GENERAL exam before the end of the year. Happy trails
