Phil's Adventure Tacoma

Today we spent sometime dealing with this gap.

Due to the design of the bed rails compared to the tailgate we could not extend the platform to cover the tailgate.

Here is what was done.

I will drive with this as is for sometime to see the trouble areas. Then we will tweak it some more and paint it.

Trucks looking great Phil. You have sure done a lot of mods in a relatively short period of time.

I'm waiting to see those new 285's though! Picked 'em out yet?

Nice setup truck mate....well done.

Question for ya?

That platform you made to gover the rear tray area.....is that permenantly fixed in place or does that have a hinge and swing up to open when the RTT isn't on top of it?

Thanks. It's been a whirlwind few months with the truck for sure. The only reason I was able to do all this though in such a short time was due to everyone on ExPo buying a lot of my old camping stuff. There was very little out of pocket expenses with this build.

That said...I don't have anything else to sell. Which means 285's are a long way away! I am coming close to the end of my build though. All that is left that I feel I need is a winch, new tires, rear locker, and I have since changed my mind about gearing so that is back on the list. Of course those are very expensive additions.

When I can afford 5 new tires, I plan on getting either traditional MT's or the KM2's.

It's permanently fixed, although easy to unbolt. I came to the conclusion that I really only needed the full use of a truck bed at most once a year. I think I can work around that situation when it presents it's self.

Secondly, the tent is kind of heavy for just one person to lift off and Jenn and I still live in apartments anyways. I do plan to take the tent off in the winter though and store it at my aunt's.

Truck ideas

Streakerfreek, I must say that in some of your first posts on your evolving truck that I used some of your ideas on my new truck (09 Ford ranger ext. cab sport 4x4) that is used to explore the Adk. mtns. here in NYS. I think that the mod that gets the most attention is the bed mounted bottle opener although I will say however that mod had been on my previous truck on the brush guard for years. Good luck back here in the East, stay safe, mjmcdowell :)

That's hilarious, but yet so true. It sure does get the most attention. Well, anytime your down in these parts give me a holler. I have not spent much time in upstate NY, so we need to get up to those parts sometime before the end of 2010.

What!?!?!

Lol, Friday night up in Vermont I started to have nightmares that I was back on the ship during one of the rough storms. That's not a feeling I want when I am on dry land.

It was similar to when you have been out at sea for a long time and then you try to sleep in a bed that is not moving.

We would not have this problem if I could mount the tent coming off the side.

I'm sure you answered this somewhere in these 40+ pages....:sombrero:

Why couldn't you mount it off to the side? Would it hang over the rails too far?

Just curious as I saw the "for sale" ad and thought you had a nice setup.

Thanks!

ETA: Nevermind! I take it with the toolbox in the bed, the tent would overhang the bed when closed.
