Phil... truck is looking GREAT. Lemme know when the break in trip is... been hiding on the boat the last few weekends, could use a camping trip.. though, truth be told, will probably hit the State Forest in Tolland, MA sooner or later(again, I like it up there)...

Glad to see its what you had in mind.....

Yes, it came out just as I wanted. I am extremely happy!

Unfortunately, Jenn has to go in for some minor surgery next week and she will be laid up for three weeks:Wow1: That basically throws out all our plans. That said, I want to head to NH for a break in trip August 28-30. 7wt might be game and I also asked Salsataco too. Your more then welcome to join.

Anyone with this RTT have problems with the cover flapping around and bubbling up a lot when driving? The tent is all I see out my rear view mirror and it is getting extremely annoying.

As a matter of fact, this issue was discussed by some owners at the last San Diego Meet & Greet. I forget who it was, but they said the very same thing!

Thanks man. At least I'm not alone then. It's so annoying it almost makes me not want this tent. A custom cover could work, but why would I spend that much on a $700 RTT.

Great set up.

Phil,
Been suffering from ExPo withdrawls but I should have more time to look arround now. Have you tried out the new set up? I'm sure you will enjoy it. I noticed a difference in handling with the canopy gone and weight down low. Currious to see how you like it.

From the photos, the fabrication is top notch.

Cheers,
P

Hey Phil, why dont you try some strategically placed criss-crossed bungie cords, or maybe one of those cool spider web looking truck bed nets to control the billowing of that RTT cover? That should keep it compressed.

Just a thought :coffeedrink:

Phil,

Looks great, just curious why you decided to open the tent over the tailgate rather than leaving that area for cooking and prep?

Yes, the fabrication is top notch. I am really glad I found Chris and that he was right down the street. We have not tried the new set up yet other then climbing around it in our driveway. Jenn goes in for surgery on Wednesday and she will be laid up for about three weeks so our summer plans have gone out the window.

As far as ride quality, it is fantastic. Its just the right amount of weight for my suspension set up and the weight is low. I love it.

I'll try some bungee cords, but I think that is about all I can do. No offence to Camping Lab, but I would have much preferred to buy a Technitop (my favorite). That said I could not pass a deal like what was offered.

Phil,

If I have the time tomorrow, I will get everything set up and take pics. I will go into more detail on why I chose this set up.

New RTT cover problem.

I am about to head to work and went around my truck to check the cover....my new daily ritual. Upon checking the straps I noticed that they were a bit lose. The problem....the rain stretched them out. This means, I can not properly strap the cover.

In this pic, I pulled the strap as taut as possible while still having barely enough Velcro to use. I'm barely pulling on the strap.

That's a real drag Phil.

One option would be to have a marine shop fix the cover, though a cheaper option may be to use a pair of decent ratchet straps to hold it securely in place.

Truck looks great btw! :)

Hey Phil tye a knot in the top strap w/out the velcro. That should take up
the slack for the velcro to match up.

Nobody's talked about going to see the trains in Maine maybe in the fall.

Well, the good news is I am heading in the right direction with it. I decided to put our sleeping bags in it. That helped some of the flapping, bubbling, and should solve any problems associated with the straps stretching. It does not perfectly fix the problem, but I can live with it more now.

Maine....yeah, I was really hoping to get up there before winter, but with Jenn's surgery and my unbelievably crappy job, I can't. I won't have any days off until 2011. That trip is a bit longer then a weekend trip. Unless I find something better soon or a hit a spat of good luck it looks like those plans are scrapped :( I was hoping to get an ExPo group together for it. The farthest were going this year is Central NH.

Your truck is looking great Phil! Good luck with the tent cover, just a minor speedbump.

What is the going price on the CBI bumper?

Yeah, its not the end of the world since the build came along very nicely. I'm happy.

I can't give you an exact price since I only bought half a bumper, but I paid roughly $800 for the old swing out.
