Phil's Adventure Tacoma

On another note, I had complained about the latch for the bumper in my short right up on it. Well my complaints about it were unfounded. Once I got use to it, it works like a charm and the simple gold pin works perfectly. Just a heads up to anyone looking at CBI's work.

So after spending the better part of a month working out the best solution for my Expeditionware Single Jerrycan Holders. The problem I faced was dealing with the height of the canopy. It is a cab high canopy and with my two sea kayaks on top there would be no room for a cargo basket.

Then I was trying to figure out the best way to just mount them to the canopy or cab.

I decided against that. Introducing more points where leaks were possible would just not be logical in the areas of the US I tend to live.

Then

it hit me. I could just use all the spare Thule parts I have collected over the years and mount them on the outside of the rack

All I had to do was buy another load bar and drill four more holes in the Jerry can holder.

I ordered two pairs of J-Cradles that will allow for more room for the kayaks in the middle with the two Jerry cans on either side. I can also use a cable lock and lock it to the canopy.

It is not the perfect solution, but it will work for now.

Looks like you found a good mounting solution. The cans look to be the same color as your truck.

It is good to have those old Thule parts laying around, the older parts sure were solid. I used some old kayak saddles to mount my IPF lights on my rack.

Yeah I remember when you posted that. I have actually used old rack pieces several times in the past.

Just ordered 5 Cooper ST's- 255/85/16 and will be at the shop by Friday, but I might wait to put them on when I get the bumper, we will see how lazy I am this weekend.

Good choice on the Coopers, people seem to swear by those tires over sea's, if they made the STT's in a 37" I would run them for sure, we have a set of STT's on a F150 and there tough, quite, and provide plenty of traction.

Welcome to the Cooper ST club! Where did you get them if you don't mind me asking?
Cheers,

This week on my breaks, I spent some time trying to seal up the bed area some more.

One area that has caused a lot of dust to get in are the side cubby holes above the wheel wells. Easy fix was to just pull them out and seal up the slots with some Right Stuff RTV. We'll see how the black goo hold's up.

Next step that I am still trying to figure out are the side compartments near the tail gate. A lot of dust comes out of the slots.

I was considering the 255/85/16 route also. However, went with 265/75/16's, for now anyway. I was concerned with any adverse effect on power/mileage, with the 4.0L in the 05+ Tacomas.

For you guys that have them on those rigs, what are your thoughts?

I am planning on using Gorilla Tape. As long as the surface is clean it should stick for years, and will not let water in.

I have actually found this to not be true. I tried it on my jeep and when it cold it fell off. I even wiped it down with alcohol first. Maybe you'll have better luck.

I decided to just not worry about the loss of power. Someday I will regear anyways so I will just deal with any power loss. I am not out there trying to race you off the line anyways.

I understand, I feel the same way. My only real concern was the effect on low range.

I will just have to wait and see I guess, but I have a feeling it won't be to much of a problem. If it is I will just have to save up a bit and re-gear. We will see...
