Van Dreamy in the Northwest

Here are a few from the three months exploring the Northwest this summer. We're about to head south for winter. It's the most uncool van I've seen and I love it. We've been boondocking on BLM and NF land for months, taking mountain passes, camping on beaches, and it's been incredible. I love how simple we have it.

The Aluminess rear tire carrier came in and is installed. Good to see my North Shore rack fits still with bikes on. I measured prior to ordering it and was pretty sure but good to have confirmation finally.
I ordered the tire carrier and not the bumper because I wanted the back up sensors still...Welp, they don't play nice with the tire carrier. Now researching back up cameras....

You can have them put the sensor holes in their full bumper, or drill them yourself. The full bumper gets the sensors back father too, much less tire interference.

Been Slowly trying to get this thing up to snuff. Welded Knapheide Boxes on Passenger Side. Pulled matching buckets and a bench out of a 90's E series, hard bolted them. Just finished a body welded roll cage. Finished Installing the underlayment headliner today. Safari rack has a redwood deck. Front Bumper was off craigslist on a 77 pickup. Winch not hooked up yet, Ramsey worm gear?. Pathfinder Conversion.

First Post.

Looking to get input from the group on:

1. Safari Rack Tarp/Tent Enclosure/Open Designs.
2. Ladder Placement Pros & Cons.
3. Swing Away Spare Tire Thoughts (on the cheap)
4. Overnight Heating Setups.
5. Well thought out interior lighting options.
6. Anything that this ride sparks in you.

Thanks for your Time! Jensen

Hey man, Missed this post from you. The rack is a Recon Rack, made in Bellingham, WA. I can access the rear doors with the rack folded down. Its pretty burly rack. Have done a lot of shuttle runs with it holding 5 bikes. No issues.

What rack is that on back? How many bikes does it hold? Can you access the rear doors with bikes on it? I'm looking for something better than the crappy old 4 bike Thule swing away I currently have for my family's bikes. Sweet van, btw!

Recon Rack, holds 5 bikes. They have a 4, 5 & 6 bike version. Made in Bellingham, WA. We have used it for shuttling 5 bikes up dirt roads all day, no issues.

1000amh Rolls Surrette battery bank (Yes, I reinforced the under framing of that compartment)
3x150 watts of panels (will probably add a 4th)
3000 watt marine grade inverter (Modified Sine)
Currently tied into the box through the board, but due to a parasitic drain,
I will most likely gut it.
Modified the rear switch panel and have ran dedicated circuits to 12 sockets
and USB's scattered about.

Removable Seats and mounts out of early model Aerostar from LKQ
Flooring is 1'' diamond gym matting. Feels good on the feet, and did lessen road noise just a bit.
Fridge Freezers - Dometic (Danfoss compressor) and Coleman (Stirling compressor) from Craigslist
Mr. Heater Big Buddy heater from Amazon

Now that I have mostly all of the build weight added, I am hoping to do the SRW mod, address the sagging
rear springs, install an Agile RIP kit, put it on 35's, clean up and paint the under carriage, and color change
the exterior with Raptor Liner.

But first, I am going to enjoy some excursion time.

Cheers!

What's the range on the Previa? Why do you need gas cans? Looks awesome with that wheel and tire combo. :smiley_drive:

right now I'm only getting around 270 miles to a tank. I'm doing all city driving, running my little girl back and forth to school, going to work, and hitting my college classes. It's only got a 16 gallon tank. I have a dented rear hatch from the previous owner, so I was thinking about mountin up some gas can racks on it (they'd hide the damage a bit) and going out into the boonies this summer. I figure if i'm out 'adventuring' sometime, I'd like to have backup petrol just in case I get low. I figured the van would do even worse on mpg if i'm out driving dirt roads and hills for a while.
