I have to say I am envious. Very cool.

Some explanation, This is was during testing and qualifying of our turbocharger test stand. It has oil and coolant supplies that we can regulate the temperature of. It also has a large battery of sensors to remotely monitor & control the whole system. This is fairly early in the genesis of the stand, so that remote aspects were not yet on-line. The turbo on the stand is an off the shelf product, not one of ours.
Effectively this is a low compression ratio, poor performing gas turbine engine.
Well at first I thought you were actually doing something useful with that ....Like cooling your beer. :coffeedrink:

I'm in Telecom. I get so see the stuff behind the scenes. My job is inventory related as well as handling repair and return.

Here is a UPS at one of our facilities. Those are 1.5 volt batteries. The ceiling is 30ft. Each one of those weighs about 2200lb. There is 576,000lb of batteries there to let the twins come on line without interrupting service for the building.

The twins are a pair of 16 cyl twin turbo charged Detroit diesels each spinning a 10,000KV generator. The mufflers are the size of a Chevy Suburban. The radiator fan is about 5 ft in diameter. The radiator is 7ft tall 8 inches thick.

Heh!! I used that page to sell the concept to do our testing. :)

Propane to fuel those things sucks. Can barely get it spinning unless you do something exotic and design to run off the liquid. That can be a little hairy in controlling it. We've seen 180,000 RPM, but that was an extra special set-up. As pictured it can do 130k anytime we ask it to.

We use gaseous LPG to light off first and warm up before turning on the diesel. At full-tilt-boogie we only get about 3/4-2/3 hour run time from 10 gallons of diesel. One of my next projects for the cart is to design a fail-safe method to re-fuel while testing. We really don't like to have anyone in the test cell when it is running and the fuel tanks are under the high speed parts (1/4" steel plate seperator).

So "the twins" are basically Cat Diesel-Electric Locomotive power plants configured for use as back-up power. 10,000 KV or 10,000 KVA?

Servicing the liquid Oxygen (LOX) on our aircraft (The protective gear is necessary because the LOX is somewhere around -300deg F).

Note: I'm in the Coast Guard, not the Air Force, we just happen to use an Air Force LOX cart.

Here's one of me and my Dad from a few years ago. This was the last time we did tile work together (he actually was done doing tile at this time, but he came and helped me grout one Sunday). He taught me the trade and has now moved on to another business that is easier on the body.

To pay the bills I am a Flight Paramedic in western Alaska...not the end of the earth but I have seen it.

For fun, and apparently because my "job" isn't exciting enough, I am a Firefighter Paramedic for our community Vol. FD

Thanks. I did just recently get another vehicle that should make it easier for me to travel to do jobs. Although, I think you are still a little farther than I want to go.;)

Spike, thanks for the compliment. Haha, I hate grouting too! The only good thing about grouting is that you are almost done with the job. I really hate it when I have to grout with a groutbag.:yikes:

Actually I hate "mud" days more than grouting. I can't seem to keep the cement off me while floating in shower walls.;)

I should have some more pics in my portfolio next week, as I just finished a huge deck with benches/stairs etc.... I just need to get back over there and take pics.
