Porsche's 1st offroad vehicle

No, not the Kubelwagen that was engineered by Porsche but the Type 597 since it actually bore the Porsche name on it. I've always thought these things were pretty cool, but that's coming from a Thing owner, so take that with a grain of salt. :D Anyway, I just came across this video clip of one and thought I'd post it up. There are enough people on here into weird vehicles like me that might appreciate it.

Adjust the freaking lifters!!!!!! LOL

Didn't know it existed! Very cool.

I came home in a 1965 356C Cabriolet so I have a little Porsche history under my belt. I can definitely appreciate it.

I love the spare tire and Jerry can set up. That is form over function with a A+ on execution but would you expect anything less of Ferdinand?

Wish they had showed it taking a swim.

That thing is pretty sweet. Oddball porsches or always interesting. I was at the Jerome Jamboree (VW Bus Gathering) a couple of years ago and there was a guy there with a porshe tractor. It was pretty cool too.

The AP144, made from '48 - '60:

Great find. I've seen tons of photos of these cars, but this is the first video. Thanks for posting.
I love to see old iron being driven and enjoyed.

Only the prototypes were truly amphibious by design. The production models were supposedly able to float, but the only propulsion would've been via the tires. They couldn't really "swim" like the VW Tp. 166 "Schwimmwagen".
This looks like one of the production models.

Hmmmm - Two wheel drive with an open diff apparently.....

They had a selectable 4wd system. It doesn't look like he's using 4wd crossing those ruts though.
