LANDCRUISER--- wow, that's the kind of camper I'm looking for--- small, light--- perfect! Thing is, you just don't see campers like that here in The States, or I should say I haven't seen anything like it; that being self contained and compact too. Seems every U.S. manufacturer's model in self contained is for grandma & grandpa and all the grand kids--- big, big, big! My idea is to have something like your setup on a full-size truck without the usual overhang in the rear. That's my idea of trail-ready.

Yes Dave, before buying this we were looking into north american campers, so much to choose from over there and for prices we in the south part of the continent can only dream off. But there was simply no model which fulfilled our wishlist, Not wider than 2 mtrs, Not longer than 2 mtr (the bedfloor of the pickup is only 155)place to sit and eat, sink, stove, fridge, aircon, heater, bed and a toilet. The smaller models in NA never had a toilet and after having travelled the world on a motorcycle there is no bigger luxury than having your own WC! THis Gibertcar has it all

Thanks for the comments LANDCRUISER, how much do these retail for in Brazil and wonder what the cost might be to import one to The States... I live in California, close by one of the largest shipping ports in the west... maybe open a Gibertcar dealership here! (wishful thinking?)

Hi Dave, Unfortunately they do not come cheap, taxes in red coloured south american countries are very high (aprx 50%) which make articles quite expensive. A new camper costs about US$ 20.000.

I met these great folks from France this weekend. They are headed to Cape horn and back up the eastern seabord of South America. They left France and went down through Africa before shipping thier rig to Florida and driving to AZ before heading South. They called it "The Snail" because they go slowly with thier house on thier back.

I just saw this post and had to respond.

I ran in to this couple in a Wally World parking lot in Flagstaff after they had been rear ended on the Navajo Rez. I spent the next few days with them helping them get their rig fixed, and driving them back and forth to a few spots while they waited.

They ended up coming over for dinner the last night; I gave them my old AZ Antique plate from my CJ-3B as a memento. The photo below was from Yellowstone a few months later.

I kept in touch with them all the way through Bolivia, but hadn't heard from them in a while.

Amazing couple for sure!

Pics of our new Lance camper

I recently sold my 2000' FWC Hawk to a friend of mine and we bought a 2013' Lance 865 camper to replace it. I am going to miss the FWC, we had a lot of adventures in it, but I am looking forward to the great times ahead of us in our new Lance.

Nice! We got a pretty similar set up: 2011 Dodge 3500 Laramie & 2011 Lance 865

Hey trailrunnerx - Very nice looking setup and nice looking stance. What suspension mods have you done and how does your combo handle the rough stuff?

We installed a 4.5" Fabtech lift with Fox shocks, as well as an air bag kit. Tires are Toyo Open Country MT, and we've added an onboard air compressor.

We went off road quite a bit on our last trip and had some issues with the air bags, one of them kinda slipped and dislodged from it's base. The camper handled somewhat ok, but we are currently doing some mods so stuff doesn't fly around when it gets bumpy. So far we haven't seen any structural issues with the camper after off-roading.

We also had to modify the brackets that hold the camper's legs since the tires sticked out too much :) to get thru while loading the camper.
