Post up your drawer/storage system

So I tried my hand at carpentry since I've never really done it before. I wanted to get the expensive drawer slides and Baltic birch(which I finally found a distributer in my area that can get it for me and not charge me a ridiculous price). I have this grand vision in my head, but decided to go really really cheap this time and see what mistakes I make along the way as well as see how I like living with the setup and see what changes I would make on the final version of the system. I plan to bed line the whole thing also by the way but ran out of time before we go on our trip to the mountains. So I'll pull it out and Bedliner it when we get back.

Made a rear power and ground supply bracket. Used a test battery before I hook to the truck.

Made the base. Used existing bolts to hold the bottom piece in the truck.

Built the fridge enclosure. This is all done with 3/4" plywood. Its one step up from the cheapest I could find at Lowe's.

Built the fridge slide. Used slick strips for the fridge to slide on.

Test fit some of the camping gear

With slide in the open position

Installed the tie down points. I over tightened these on purpose so there is a drag on the market that way when the fridge isn't in the truck they aren't rattling. Seems to work pretty good so far

Fridge tied down. I also installed the fridge slide lock. Very crude eye bolt but keeps it tight and the slide doesn't move at all.

Nice simple setup. Only things I can see is I would have made some hinged wings to go around the fender well so the top covers side to side. Hinged still allowing access to the parts underneath. My OCD kicked in when I saw the fridge tiedown straps all tied up in a bunch. They make organizer bands that will allow you to fold up the end of the strap and keep it neat on the strap.

Thanks. Yeah I was planning on ordering the tie down straps for the arb fridges and use those. I also plan to make wings for the sides as well but due to a time crunch for our trip this weekend I won't be able to until we return. I need to have a flat surface since our lab rides in the back most of the time.

I do need to figure something for the bottom compartment though. As I pushed a table back there and then couldnt reach it to pull it back out. I wanted that area for quick items such as tables and chairs. That can be pulled out on the side of a road and ha e a quick comfortable meal about anywhere. I thought about getting some of those roll under bed Tupperware containers. They may fit in there.

Sleeping platform in my F350 7.3, the platform is 3/4 pre-cleared plywood and the drawers are 1/2 inch. All edges have been sealed with poly and all stainless hardware was used. My wife and I went on a 2 week trip through the Rockies and it worked out great. I used 36" 250lb drawers slides, and the next 2 compartments are about 2x2 and the last compartment is about 1x4 towards the cab of the truck. This thread gave me lots of ideas when I was putting this together so it was time to share mine.

The diamond plate looking top is a rubber / vinyl type of material, its pretty flexible and kinda soft, has a little more give then bare wood. It was supposed to be used on a gym floor I believe, it was left over from a Tv show that my dad was working on, they were just going to throw it away.

Nice work. What specific tool did you use for the screw joinery of the plywood?

What is everyone using for coatings. I'm wanting to Bedliner my setup but not sure what to go with. I used the aerosol type on a small portion and didn't like the coverage or texture

LineX for a professional look and finish. It will cost a bit more, but it will look great.

I had a gallon of herculiner in my basement, but I was not sure I wanted to try it on wood since I need it for something else.

So i decided to try a deck over paint. Wow, I am impress with the result. Very scratch resistant, no gloss finish and wood texture does not show at all, thick enough to have some texture. And at about 30$ can in my case, was affordable too.
