Very nice work there Bgkahuna. I have a few questions for you.

1. What kind of bag in that in the drawer?
2. How does your locking latch work?
3. Where did you get those drawer pulls?

Thanks

Naturally, when I'm 80% of the way through my drawer project for my Suburban, a scrounger friend of mine sends me this link from www.Wisconsinsurplus.com

"Has drawers and command desk; fits in rear cargo area; may fit other vehicle models and brands"

It looks like it came out of the back of a state vehicle - police or DOT or something.

It wouldn't leave room for my camp boxes on top, but someone else might find it useful - bidding closes on May 10.

updates to post #814 on page 82. It wouldn't allow me to add more photos. I got the Rear awning installed, moved the RTT forward and the storage platform to the rear for a few reasons to include better COG / weight distribution. the Pull pal has been moved inside with the HiLift jack, added a Campfire in an can and a couple ALU Boxes to the family as well.P5180519.jpg- at OEX 13

If it was possible to meld the concept and functionality of a Swiss Army knife together with an off-road vehicle, this would be the result. A really neat setup, super execution.

Matt - would you mind sharing more details. I'm interested in seeing how you anchored the slide-out portion to the floor. What does the floor piece look like? etc.

Thanks

I think I finally got somethig I like

I have been working on a storage system for my 71 F 250. This is the third and hopefully the last one that I will do. I was going to put in drawers in the center box but deciced on the lid opening up instead. I went this way for two reasons. The first and most significant, is that I doubt my wood working ability and drawers seem like something someone should attempt when they have more skill and tools than I do. The other is that there is usually gear in front of the center box and all of it would have to be removed to pull out a drawer.

My goal was to have something that I could carry all my camp gear, have power for computers, Cpap breathing machines, and keeping things separated enough to find what I need at the time.

The side boxes carry dry goods (food, etc), one box carries recovery gear and HiLift and the other carries tools. The center box carries the majority of the gear that is only needed once in camp.

Here is a shot with the extensions in place, allowing for a bed that is a bit longer than 7'. The length is important since I am 6'7"

I got to use it at OX 13 and found that it met my needs nicely. Time will tell though.

Thanks for the positive comments
1. the bag is a sitka gearslinger form Maxpedition
2. The locks are from American Locks, made of steel. Not like the aluminum type you get at the box stores
3. the box hardware , handles , extrusions are from tchweb.com. Good company, good customer service and good shipping

Sure thing Rich - I really struggled with how to mount these 30" 400lb slides to my Jeep. Attached are a few more photos of the initial stages of mounting the slides and aluminum angle to the cargo floor:

sajuru5y.jpg
Close-up view of the final installed bolt locations. Note: I used the forward most cargo tie down bolt holes (located behind the rear seats) as a starting point and lined up the 2" x 30" aluminum angles. Once I had the aluminum angles lined up and mounted positioning the slides was easy.

e3yzanyj.jpg
View of the finished slide rail install. I was a little limited in the locations where I could drill through the floor and mount bolts due to the clutter under the cargo floor on the exterior of the JKU. I drilled out each location through the floor and used 5/16" x 1/2" stainless bolts, 2" stainless fender washers (to spread the point loading as much as possible), and stainless nyloc nuts to secure the aluminum angle slide rails to the floor. Two bolts at the front (behind the rear seats) and one at the rear. I placed a generous blob of black RTV sealant on each fender washer before installing to aid in rust prevention and to improve the water tight seal lost by drilling through the floor.

You'll notice that I cut the carpeting. This ensured a level surface to mount the rails to.

I just returned from a 5-day trip on some heavily washboarded forest service roads with ~300lb of gear on the cargo tray; no problems to report. The slides, mounting rails, and tray all performed admirably. I'll be monitoring the mounting points for any signs of stress/deformation and may try to add a few more mounting points if necessary.

Unfortunately I don't have anymore intermediate photos of the build. I hope my description and two additional photos helps paint a clearer picture of what I did to mount the slides.
