Sure thing Rich - I really struggled with how to mount these 30" 400lb slides to my Jeep. Attached are a few more photos of the initial stages of mounting the slides and aluminum angle to the cargo floor:

Close-up view of the final installed bolt locations. Note: I used the forward most cargo tie down bolt holes (located behind the rear seats) as a starting point and lined up the 2" x 30" aluminum angles. Once I had the aluminum angles lined up and mounted positioning the slides was easy.

View of the finished slide rail install. I was a little limited in the locations where I could drill through the floor and mount bolts due to the clutter under the cargo floor on the exterior of the JKU. I drilled out each location through the floor and used 5/16" x 1/2" stainless bolts, 2" stainless fender washers (to spread the point loading as much as possible), and stainless nyloc nuts to secure the aluminum angle slide rails to the floor. Two bolts at the front (behind the rear seats) and one at the rear. I placed a generous blob of black RTV sealant on each fender washer before installing to aid in rust prevention and to improve the water tight seal lost by drilling through the floor.

You'll notice that I cut the carpeting. This ensured a level surface to mount the rails to.

I just returned from a 5-day trip on some heavily washboarded forest service roads with ~300lb of gear on the cargo tray; no problems to report. The slides, mounting rails, and tray all performed admirably. I'll be monitoring the mounting points for any signs of stress/deformation and may try to add a few more mounting points if necessary.

Unfortunately I don't have anymore intermediate photos of the build. I hope my description and two additional photos helps paint a clearer picture of what I did to mount the slides.

Thanks for the additional info and pics. Great work!

Land Rover Defender 90 drawer plans

Hi,

My first post...!

I have followed the design & builds on here and have had a stab at designing my own drawers for my Defender 90.

Defender Drawer 2.jpg

I found some 750mm rails at £7.99 per pair, so not quite as long as I wanted, but for the price I'll give them a go.

I have drawn (in Sketchup) my plan, first effort, so not brilliant. I need to adjust the dimensions to the exact sizes in the Defender and the items I want to fit, but its close.

If I've done this right, here is my model:- http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/det...09a3873c84

Comments welcome...

cheers

Howdy Folks!

Thought I would share my version of custom drawers I built for my 'ol Cruiser. Of course I designed them with the help of everyone else's incredible ideas...

... and BRAVO to everyone else for creating and sharing with the rest of us.

Cheers.

Lucy,I really like the idea of using that flooring surface! I'm sure that makes it really durable and ready to clean. I think I'll be stealing that idea for my own. This thread is just a wealth of great ideas and amazing craftsmanship.:thumbup:
