espressomon, that looks great. I've been debating purchasing an awning for my LX470. The Fiammas are expensive but that looks nice deployed.

Questions, what's at the end of the guy lines? What's the little deflector on the front of the roof rack, does it help with MPG or wind noise? Also, can you deploy the poles into the body on days where wind isn't an issue?

CSG, I made the fairing...it cuts wind noise down significantly. The guy wires I use are from my Kimberley Kamper awning. They feature heavy springs at the end to absorb rather than transmit a gust load from wind. If its calm I just use the legs without guying them out. You could also take a gutter spike type of tent stake (Fiamma includes 6" spikes for this)and quickly "nail" the leg feet into the ground. The awning is not designed to be used without at least the legs supporting it to the ground. But seriously: 60-seconds to set-up...and another 60-seconds if you need to nail the feet to the ground.

Yes the Fiamma's are more expensive. Mario (Adventure Trailers...where I bought it) assured me it was "Dan tough" (I have a habit of torturing equipment)...but after torture testing it on our Utah trip a couple weeks ago with low hanging tree branches, limbs, etc. and having the hard case deflect all without issue I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. My motto: Cry once.

It opens and closes in a snap..literally 60-seconds to full deploy or close down. That was very important as I'm not very patient, especially if we just need a little shade apart of a lunch stop, nor are my wheel'n buddies.

The only complaint I have: The flimsy crank handle snapped out on the trail while opening it for the 3rd time. But I solved that problem by welding the Fiamma hook, apart of the broken handle, onto a 9mm 3/8" drive socket and along with a 3/8" 'speeder' wrench and presto: Tough, fast and small form factor for easy storage.

My setup. ARB 1.25m awning on a Front Runner Windcheetah rack, using some 'quick release' mounts I fab'd so that it stores tightly on the rack yet comes off in 20-30 seconds when not in use.

Sorry for the delay, been an insanely busy week.

These mount the ARB awning to the FrontRunner rack but I see no reason why it couldn't be built to mate many different awnings and racks in a temporary fashion. If I was more solid on having the awning up on the cab, I would have just used some "L" brackets or even mounted it in some fashion directly through the sides of the rack, however I wanted to be able to move it side to side, or take it off. This entire rack comes off the truck in 5 minutes, but to access the mounting bolts I needed to be able to have the awning out of the way. It made no sense to have to spend 30 minutes removing the awning just to take the rack off?

Kurt, I just installed my front runner rack and am looking to fab something like what you did where my awning can be removed quickly. Can you go into a little more detail on how you made your quick connect brackets?

Grabbed a picture of my Bus Depot Awning in action today. Nothing hangs off or attach's to the vehicle when not in use, transport size 10"x28".

I was looking at the Bus Depot awnings myself. They claim they can be used without guy wires because of the frame structure. How sturdy are they and can they handle wind/rain to any extent?

Greg, No guide ropes use in pictured set up. I would not purchase if my intended use was with the optional 4 pole set up. With wind as with any awning tie downs would be needed. Never used in rain but the dome design was one of my buying point when purchased. The awnings dome is formed from fiberglass poles so I feel good about its ability to shed rain. The flexibility of use was the strongest buying point for us.
