Rescue #3.

This rescue reaffirmed with my wife that the next install for the truck will be a decent winch bumper combo. The situation argued for itself ... narrow trail, soft sand, no traction. A winch would have turned that into a 5 minute job vs 15 minutes and 2 tow straps. Oh, and she told me to go ahead an get a snorkel as well ...

The rest of the pics from the ride will be on my build thread, full of ugly Jeeps and my "white wale". My buddy's FJ Cruiser.

EDIT: Put the wrong picture in originally ....

You better hurry before she changes her mind! I don't know if you saw my threadbuild, but I have a link in there for a good snorkel for 160. Check it out quick. Go ahead an order you a winch too! You can get the bumper after the winch and she can't say anything... Cause you need it for the winch you know.:coffeedrink: Thanks for sharing and those pictures are (incredible... key the droid slogo...). :wings:

Well, if I were to do it again I'd mount my winch on a piece of 3/8-1/2" plate that's welded in place between the frame rails behind the bumper instead of on a winch bumper, but kudos on getting your CFO sign off on those purchases.:ylsmoke:

Why is that? Would that even be an option for you with the bumper you have?

In my case, I made the mistake of having a fabricator re-enforce my frame rail ends when I didn't realize how much space he'd take in doing that. He used 3/8" plate all around frame rail ends so now I no longer have enough space between them to fit a winch. It would nearly be impossible w/out some serious mods to my rig.

As for my bumper, yes it could work pretty easily. I'd simply cut out a hole for the line to feed through and use a hawse fairlead. Hole saw + a die grinder w/ a cutting wheel, or a torch, or a plasma cutter would be all it would take. :Mechanic:

BUT why would you mount the winch in that area instead of where you have it now? My reasoning was more against having it in that area.

Here's an animated gif of cap510 wheeling his SR. Nobody else was willing to try the line he took through this boulder field and up onto a granite shelf in the Sierra Nevada's.

His rig that I 'lovingly' call Monstero currently sits on 37's w/ a 3" BL, 2" suspension lift, 4.9:1 r&p gears and 3.15:1 xcase gears.

Yup. 37x14.5 tires w/ 5" of lift make that impression.
It's ability to conquer trails most can't only confirms it.

Rubicon Trail CHECK
Dusy Ersham Trail CHECK
Fordyce Creek Trail CHECK
And IIRC that was when he as only running 35's.

But then you should see some of the Montero's our 'brother's' in AZ run too. Everything from very well built expedition rigs (scottie's) to hard core crawlers. Then there's Lloyd Schwartz. One of the original Montero wheeler's I met way back in the early days of mass Internet. He was the 1st I know to run 33 then 35's on his 2 door gen I v6. He's currently building a gen II with 37's, crawler gears, front and rear air lockers, etc... etc...

Silly flat-land trucker thought he'd haul a load of quarried flagstone across a snow closed mountain highway. Black Monstero provided the unsticky. :Wow1:

All hail Monstero!

Our savior!

Our leader into the battlefield known as the wild unknown!

... we should totally should start inserting Black Monstero into Chuck Norris jokes. I'll start:

Black Monstero doesn't rock crawl, the earth just moves around underneath it.

You Guy's are talking about CAP510's Montero Right? The one sitting with all it's intake valves bent and one broken exhaust valve. That's the one right?

Playing in muddy water will do that. :( Raises Hell with the timing belt pulleys.

I'm sure Carlos will post some remarks and pic's soon. On the good side He got rid of the A/C and all the hardware that went it.
