Just installed a newer 03 grill on my 01.

I had to trim the bump stops so it could go higher. It was resting on them and made the ride rather stiff. But after that it was fine.

I'll give that a look/try. Thanks for all the info.

Bit the bullet finally and got some new shoes!! I went for the cooper AT3s 285/70r17. 32.8 inches as close as to 33s I could get. Awesome to hear these tires won Overland Journal's best All Terrain tire!

After lurking around different forums, I thought I could get away with no rubbing but I turned the wheel all the way and rub a dub rub.

So the guys at the shop found where it was rubbing and bent the cross member of the front suspension to lessen the noise. It's better but I don't turn the wheel all the way now.

Can't wait to take these beauties for an off road adventure!

You could have went with a 235/85r16 or 255/85r16 and likely not had any rubbing.

Seeing as 33's come in a 9.50, 10.50, and 12.50 width it's not strange at all, plus some tires are not true to size.

They are very, very, VERY wrong. I fit 33x10.5x15 KM2's without even doing the t-bar tweak, but I did it anyway just to level it all out. They fit great and don't rub. My springs have 190,000 miles on them and are 16 years old. I would assume a fair amount of sag and compression in them. I do have new shocks though.

They fit like they were made for it:

no rubbing even in full tuck

Excuse me, I should of spell checked my last message. I meant to say that they Won't Rub*. One guy fitted 33" Toyo Mts without any lift and they fit perfect with no rub at all.

It's strange yours rubbed.

Yes, a 2003 would be a 3rd generation Montero.

Ah yes. Good point. Gen 3 is definitely a different animal. One I know little about yet

Gen 3s started and ended at 2000-2006. 33s on a Gen 3 rub. At least on mine.
