Seem to be holding up great. Little scuffs on the lugs but barely noticeable. They look great paired with the brig. Dueler 31's. I based outta northern MN on the coast of Lake Superior. It's dusted this winter off like it was nothing lol.

I like the dipped wheels with the chrome centers. Been trying to figure out what to do with mine and thinking heavily about Plasti-dipping, not a big fan of the chromed wheels but don't want the hassle/mess of complete refinishing. Our Monteros would be virtual twins. Mine is a white 98 and is also now riding on 31s. Maybe I'll leave the lugs alone just to see how that looks.

Lol! Twins is right! This find was a gem. Can believe at this age everything works. Even the head lamp washers! I'd like to start with some exterior mods... Rocksliders, rear bumper and a arb on the front. Maybe mod the bumper to keep the headlamp washers. Haha. Dunno why I'm entertained by'em!
Currently replacing the head unit/infinity system with a Kenwood single din. No audio though. It's all powered up but not sound. Gonna try bypassing the amp with a harness and wire direct to the unit and rip out the amp and changer.

This looked like a great place to camp to get out of the wind...until we noticed the truck-sized chunks of earth that had recently fallen from the roof of the cave!!!

Like a said I'm new can you tell me what the differences are? :)

Gen 2 have "straight sides," as below:

The Gen 2.5 are called the "wide arch" models in some areas because of the wide fender arches.

Lots of mechanical and engine differences, of course, but that's the way to spot 'em quickly.

We got some great looking Montes on here!

Just want to say you guys are my inspiration to adventure! I went out to the Sierras this week and took my ride out on some unpaved roads that I've always dreamed of going. I actually got to the end of this one road and had met this huge hill:Wow1:. It was pretty intimidating, but it's nothing compared to what you guys go through.:coffee: But this was a good test for my ride and my wits. My dogs didn't argue with me either so, Montenegro got up the hill on 4llc low (4llc high seemed to be too torquee) and I must say it was awesome!

I have some pics of me and the hill and some other ones..

California, central valley. :ylsmoke: close to you bud!
very true Eurosonic! That's why this is my 2nd gen 3. I remember how capable my stock 03 was!
But now I'm more serious about overlanding, I knew I needed more clearance, hence the OME suspension. Skid plates are next, since my tires are still pretty new.

Hey Socal! I like your rear tire cargo mount. I'm looking for one to carry a gas jerrycan. My question is would that put more strain on your door, making it sag or even bending some metal? I can't imagine with a spare tire and some more stuff how much the door hinge could carry when opened.

Here is mine on Thursday, having heartlessly dumped the rear left wheel. It was a slight bang, and a dragging, then I see the wheel in the rear view mirror bouncing down the road towards me :Wow1:

Was a bit of a ball ache to get it high enough to get the wheel back on,but a guy down the road came to my assistance with a trolley jack
