Just picked up this real clean 2002 XLS on Thursday. 98k, JVC head unit, and completely stock otherwise. Plans are to drive it every day as-is and add a few odds and ends here and there, such as a small compressor, 2m radio, a bike rack and dirt. Already filled up some of the neat little compartments in the hatch with stuff like a first aid kit, tie-downs, tools and jumper cables.

how much did you pay for it?

5,500-4,000 trade for my Ram. Price was on par for the location (southeast PA) and conditon. Similar SUV's (4Runners, Pathfinders, Xterras) with considerably higher mileage were more expensive. I lost a bed and heavy-duty axles but for what I was using it for it was unecessary. I've cut my fuel cost in half while getting more use out of the Monty. Hell, I freed up enough cabbage to start playing ice hockey a couple times a week. Long term it will allow me to take day trips without blowing my gas budget for the week.

These came in the mail today. Hope to have them installed on my MS this weekend

If you don't mind I have a question since you have 2 selectable lockers. Have you played around using only the front to climb an obstacle then only the rear on the same obstacle? I can only afford one, and the either front or rear only locker debate hurts my brain and has been inconclusive thus far. Your input would be much appreciated.

Nice rig BTW, your avatar isn't too bad either. I too had a 1991 Talon AWD years ago, you have great taste. :sombrero:

Thanks, I'm lucky to have the two best vehicles from Mitsubishi.:smiley_drive:

The ARB switches only allow you to use the front if the rear is on, so I've never been able to use front only. The front makes it hard to steer. If i had to make a choice, i would go with the rear.

I would highly recommend getting the rear locker first. I have a locker in my montero, whenever its used it gets me out of the mess 90% of the time.

My 2001 Montero Sport XS, consider it a sort of Prerunner Montero Sport,

3.5L, 2wd with air locker from a 95SR traded in during cash for clunkers, OME medium duty rear springs, cranked stock torsion bars.
.

Is the lift needed to fit 31s on a 2wd,

31s are just a tad larger then the stock, and even was a stock option. So no. No lift needed for 31 inch tires. I had 31s for about 2 years before switching to my current 33 inch tires. Love the 33 inch ones, its what a lot of us have been going to. :)
