through my college days I worked through several backpacking type tents. here are some random shots, primarily in Idaho. some in Washington and Oregon though. couple REI tents, Kelty, Black Diamond, Marmot, and even a tarp! And think, I now ride in a Four Wheel Camper! dang desk job made me fat! ha.

Another RTT, these are simply brilliant if roof top tents are your thing.

I made my own brackets to mount the tent to the roll cage rather than the aluminium roof of the Landrover.

Looks great Steve on your rig.
I really enjoy roof top tents, I do not think I could ever go back to sleeping on the ground again.

I sleep so much better in mine than I ever have in a ground tent.
I think part of it too is a more secure feeling being off the ground away from the cold ground, rocks, dirt, ect.

Hi Corey,

Firstly, thanks to your posts and info. these went a long way in my decision on a Maggiolina.

Yes, much better than the standard autohome ladder. In fact the autohome ladder is in my garage after 1 use.

The telescopic ladders are great, but there seems to be a lot of them about so not sure of the varying quality.

And now for something a little different..

I have spent a few years messing with the RTT (Hannibal) and have finally removed the roof rack and all that excess bulk and weight. Built a taller storage platform inside with fender and tailgate panels and have essentially been able to pull over, crawl into the back and sleep. Also get better mileage, keep weight lower and centered and reduce my footprint going through tight roads and trails. It also looks more like an old 4x4 truck and less like a truck with lots of goodies inside.

Best of all, there is nearly no setup or takedown time involved.

old RTT setup (ladder would either be the rear ladder on the bumper or hannibal going down to the bullbar)

new setup, full-size 3" memory foam pad and regular bedding.

4 magnetic window screens for maximum airflow when warm, completely sealed for cold or stormy weather. The truck is looking more stealthy and less of an expedition bolt-on target.

That is my friend's Hennessy Hammock strung between trucks. Pretty ingenious design on it's own for single person camping.

awesome amounts of storage
