pot and pans

I buy decent non stick pans from Marshals or tj maxx equivelent for about 10 bucks. Just get one with a handle you can take off. I have a pot grabber with rubber pads (from Marshals) I use to move them around. Once the handle is gone it is a small as a "camp" pan but better quality and cheaper.

Just got a set of Magma and liking it

Mo saw that I was looking at pots and then she got interested and bought a set of Magma through Amazon. We got the ten piece set just before taking off for a week long trek on the north rim. We cooked every day and the pots were great. They travel nice and the heavier SS clad aluminum has great heat distribution. We may not use the big pot too often when by ourselves but when family comes, it will be handy.
They are a lot of money but if cooking is a big part of your travels, then they are certainly worth the funds.

Yep, both were sold within a few hours after my post. The price was shown originally as $250, reduced to $99.95.

Might have been a retailer that had been trying for a price gouge at $250 -- he knew he had desirable items -- but then decided to get rid of them at a reasonable price.

^There is no Stansport brand item i have ever bought that i have not had to replace fairly soon thereafter. GSI sells all sorts of nesting sets. Work fine for me and I use them regularly.

That's good to hear. I've wanted GSI products to work well. I tried some of their plastic cup and plate set, but they were junk. I'd give their pots and pans a shot, based on your recommendation.

All that I know is that I actually own and have used the set with no issues. That set also has pretty good reviews from other customers. The OP asked what people were using. I put it out there. I'm happy with it. But to each his own...

Based on past reviews here, I looked high and low for a Cuisinart set but couldn't find one. Eventually I found the Stansport 7pc Stainless Steel Family Cook Set at a local Sportsman's Warehouse for about $60. It appears to be almost identical to the Cuisinart set, with the exception of a single heavy-duty plastic handle as opposed to the two stainless steel handles. However, you can order a second plastic handle from Stansport f0r $15. Very high quality & my wife loves it. You won't be disappointed! http://www.amazon.com/kitchen-dining/dp/B000HK50IU http://www.stansport.com/index.php/outdoor/cookware/stainless-steel/369.html
I think the biggest differences to me would be the size of the largest pot, 6qt vs 4qt and an extra lid. I need the larger pot while others might prefer the smaller.

Cuisinart:
6 Qt. stock pot
2 Qt. sauce pan
10" saute pan
8" saute pan
2 removable universal handles
(1) multi-lid for sauce pan and 8" saute pan
(1) lid for stock pot and 10" saute pan

Stansport:
4 Qt. Pot
3 Qt. Pot
2 Qt. Pot
1 Qt. Pot
10 inch fry pan
(1) universal lid
(1) handle

Yes, that's what I like about the Cuisinart set -- large big pot and an extra lid -- in addition to the high quality. It's easy to cook for six or more people. The extra universal handle is also great.

Well exactly, that's the beauty of this forum, put it out there and let the OP and others decide.

I think it is time for me to upgrade later, but undecided which set to get.
I currently use a Lodge cast iron 8" skillet for eggs, and I have very old Revereware from the 40s or 50s that was my grandparents.
Stainless steel with copper bottoms, and phenolic handles.

Also have my parents and my set from around '88 or so, and not much has changed with all three sets even though they are years apart.
Revereware is good stuff, but a little heavy for camping plus the handles do not come off.
This is pretty much my set for home use, and the tow older sets are a little more deluxe with more sauce pans and a strainer.

For those of you cooking with stainless, are you getting food stuck/burnt to the inside?

We've had no issues with sticking/burning on the stainless pots or the fry pan. They clean up real nice. I would lean towards a nesting set with a removable handle. Makes it a lot easier for packing and space savings.
