The truck still available.

The potential buyer from BC was a dishonest person. He seemed legitimate at first, but the more he kept coming back with questions after questions, even after he got the truck inspected by an independent mechanic to try and find anything and everything that would be or could be necessary to repair (the inspection didn't reveal anything for road safety. Yes, it's an old truck and yes, it will require maintenance, like any old vehicle, thus the fair selling price). With all that information in hand and after establishing in writing the $35,000 CAN purchase price, with the method of payment being a bank draft (which he had supposedly secured before flying in); he made the trip all the way from BC to Montréal, leading me to believe that he was very serious; he had everything researched, insurance, time off to travel back with the truck, even coming with his girlfriend. Remember, it's a 3 hours drive for me to get there, on a Monday, lost a full day of work and a full tank of gas (at $1.70/liter in Canada right now).

He spent over an hour on the phone with ''his mechanic'' from back home and checking everything all over again, fair, I was fine with that, he's buying it to drive across the country with his girlfriend for the next 10 days, better be certain. Couldn't find anything else that the inspector already pointed out, nothing preventing the truck from taking the road.

I have a copy of the inspection report and I have the permission to use it; I will share it with any interested buyer for free. The inspection cleared the truck for road safety, mechanically sound and in very good condition for the age of the vehicle. The inspector noted that the next thing on the list for maintenance, are the suspension bushings that will need to be replaced in the near future. The inspector suggested that while getting the bushing replaced, it was the perfect time to verify and adjust the sway bar and get an alignment; but again, the road test passed with all very good for all the points they check, from the driving, breaking, smoothness on the road, control, turning, and all the other things inspectors test during their road test.

I am sharing everything to be as transparent as I can be, no surprises for anyone.

Long story short, in the end, it was all a pressure tactic to try and force a negotiation. He wanted to pay $12,000 for the truck because that was his budget. ******? Such a waste of time. I took down the add from Facebook; never ever going to post anything on that platform ever again, so many morons.

Well, that's absolutely awful to read / hear. :(

I have the feeling that the FB marketplace is swarming with folks looking to take advantage, low ball, etc. (on top of what may be lots of bots launching the autoresponse, "Is this still available?").

(I'm not sure of the policy here, but it seems it would make sense to make folks aware of this individual, perhaps by noting his initials at least(?)... Of course a "black list" would be great to have, but there may be some legal issues with doing so.)

Without saying too much for privacy reason and not to get in trouble, a man in his early 30's, owns a wood cutting company and lives in BC.

I will keep the truck for sale on this forum only; here I feel like most people are better educated on expedition vehicle types and prices.

I understand that it is making it harder for me to sell the vehicle since I'm in Canada and most of you guys are in the USA, but like I said in previous posts, I'm whiling to accommodate any buyer with the relocation of the truck, be driving it myself to the border to avoid having to deal with the Canadian portion of the figuring out how to import the vehicle.

Frankly, I would simply hire a broker for a cross-border importation to handle all of the paperwork; but that's just me. I also provided a link to a transportation company specializing in moving big truck all over North America, that would be my number one choice for certain.

Facebook is frustrating for buyers as well. People are so overly cautious. I live in BC and was trying to make a deal on a Fuso recently with someone from Ontario. I was willing the fly out and drive it back, and pay what the seller was initially asking, but they strung me along for a couple weeks with breadcrumbs of information and ended up selling for a few thousand dollars less than they were asking. Just left me scratching my head.

Any chance you could drive it into the US? I'd be happy to buy you a plane ticket back.
I replied to your PM.

For your question about the driving into the US, not really, especially not all the way to New Mexico, I don't have that kind of time right now. I would if I could, sorry man.

The best I could do for you at this time would be to drive the truck up to the Canadian side of the border for you to save you from having to deal with the provincial part of the transaction. Mainly, for anyone to drive a vehicle legally in Canada, the vehicle has to be registered. Once I sell it to you, you would technically be required to present yourself to the Ontario registry office to get a temporary plate to drive the truck to the border.

After that, I have no idea what the requirements are on the USA side of the border.

Frankly, like I mentioned in the PM and here before, I would personally go with a trans-border transportation company. They deal with all the legal process, paperwork, customs clearance and inspection. Plus, all the time they save you, worth every dollars.

I shared the link to a company that specializes in transporting expedition trucks all across North America: Freight Monster. I would contact them just to get an idea of how much they would charge and ask questions about the importation process.

Hope this help you or anyone else in their research.

Which border crossing could you meet me at?
Champlain/Lacolle is the closest border crossing. Let's continue the conversation about the details in the actual conversation.

Just to clarify for anyone else, my offer to drive the truck to the border to make any US buyer's life easier is only after you purchased the truck. This is not an offer to go around to showcase the truck.

Remember, making sure everyone understands, if we go for the border crossing option, it is a lot more complicated for all parties since we both have to figure a way to and from the border respectively, and the buyer would still have to cross the border to the Canadian side. Taking that important logistical detail into consideration, it could be much easier to simply get a temporary plate at this point.

I still think the best option is to use a transportation company, even if it's only to pick-up the truck and cross the border and meet up with the driver at your chosen location on the US side (could be an airport, bus terminal, train station... you get the point).

Yes, the truck is still available.

Next visit is in the afternoon on Saturday September 14 and Sunday morning September 15. I will be there on those days, so a quick purchase would be easy.

Note: other days are also available, only I wouldn't be able to make it there, but my brother can show the truck. If you are thinking about flying in and are serious about buying it right then and there and drive it back home, we would make arrangements to facilitate the purchase.
