Just read through this whole thread. I love what you are doing with the hundy.

At the moment I own a 97 fzj 80, the best vehicle to ever be produced in the galaxy ;) I have always secretly wished for a 100 series. Every time I'm with my wife I point one out to her and tell her how nice and luxurious they are in hopes of getting her one when the Altima dies.

Your build is very well thought out. I would like to stop in and say hi the next time I am in town,

Jon

Dont forget a set of DT headers to cure the ticking of the manifolds and increase the engine performance.

Thanks!

The 80 Series is a fantastic platform, arguably one of the best of breed from Toyota. I've owned one and worked on hundreds, I can't say enough about what a solid truck they are. My problem with 80's is strictly personal, they don't fit a vehicle need I currently have and the 100 was a better overall replacement for my Tacoma and the types of uses it gets. Honestly an 80 would likely be a suitable replacement for both my 40 & Tacoma but given the 40 isn't leaving my herd, it isn't going to happen. :D

For sure Jon, that would be great

Thorley headers are on my future list. I'm pretty convinced I have a subtle cold start tick from my manifolds and the DT headers are the no-brainer fix. Glad to hear your happy with them overall. Is your 100 re-geared? Pretty heavy setup over stock?

My 100 is pretty much stock except for tires. Shortly sliders and then rear bumper in the weight dept. Mixed in I will have done the ARB air lockers and I will prob go 4.88 when I do. You can check out the performance results of the DT headers on my blog and I will be testing the DT cat back as well as the EMS cat back shortly.

Thanks for the feedback Rob. We are Doug Thorley dealer so it might be something I invest in personally sooner than later. I've been checking your site, great stuff. Keep me posted when you complete the cat-back & EMS testing!

kurt really appreciate your list of build items (especially listing part numbers) and your opinion why using these particular items; we all have a super wish list but money does not always agree. keep the posts coming

Thanks!

I'm working on part 3 as I get time today, it covers the parts acquisition and a few last minute additions.

The Death Star hundy owned the ExpeditionUtah 'Freeze Your Tail Off' trip, couldn't be happier with its performance. I was on total cruise control this year with Stephen out in front this year, this let met get a few miles behind the group and have some 'spirited' driving opportunities to catch up in the tail-gunner spot. While the washboard was as brutal as I've ever seen it along the route, I was completely happy with how the 100 handled, this with a pretty decent load and full pressure tires. While it doesn't have the get up and go of the Tacoma, I had fun behind the wheel on the long sections of washboard rail road grade. We ended the day at the Spiral Jetty, my brother snapped this shot:

PS, Part# 3 of the Death Star build thread is getting close, been a busy few weeks :D

Great question!

The Expeditions7 rigs are dialed, like 100% dialed. Kudos to the design (Greg and Scott) and the implementation (AT & Proffits Cruisers) for the craftsmanship on the build. I can't think of a single thing I would change about them and its fair to say I definitely grasped at some ideas they utilized in the builds. For instance, their addition of USB ports and 12V outlets. The E7 Troopies have a double USB port (model offered by Adventure Trailers) in the passenger dash, very handy for charging cameras, phones, GPS, Ipods, etc. In addition they have extra 12V ports in the rear seating area which came in handy again for cameras, phones, etc. The storage system in the E7 vehicles allowed for 'deep-6' items which you don't need access too often and the bins towards the back gave quick and easy access to the daily needed items.

That answer you question? I'd gladly expand on any of that if you desire :D
