Nice :Wow1:looking welding tool there Steinez. That weld came out real nice. Ow, just a little pointer, it is called a chuck and not a chunk. Keep up the good work and lets see that Hågglund rolling soon! Everyone is following your build thread with great anticipation.... Cheers, Chilli...:)

A most usefull tool! you could make some cash on the side by making prop shafts for local garages extending truck chassis

Probably would require a balancer for prop shafts as well and a larger thru bore on the weld positioner before you could seriously think about offering such services.

Steinez, every time I check in on your build I am simply amazed! I consider myself a pretty handy DIY'r but you take it to a whole new level! GREAT WORK and keep it up! Cant wait to see some pictures of you slinging some snow around!

This thread has got me looking at snow vehicles, and I've been scouting the web, where I found this immaculate, road legal Snow-Trac ST4, here on Ebay UK.

Sadly its time for my cherished ST4 to go on the market as i need to free up some garage space.
She is a 1964 ST4 Number #660, As you can see by the pictures its in excellent shape & is 100% reliable, starts first time every time. It has had a lot of maintenance & needs nothing.
It comes with a whole shed load of general ST4 used spares including brake assemblies variator parts + complete assembly, engine, gearbox, turrets etc etc,
its road legal with NO MOT required & FREE road tax!!! 100 bucks fully comp insurance and you're off!!!!! One previous owner on log book as BT who purchased it new in 1964
Call me on 07802423318 if you want to discuss anything.
Look on ForumsForums website to find all about these reliable collectable machines.

Any inspection welcome & feel free to come for a look first

Cash on collection

Thanks guys...

There`s also a ST4 for sale at our house in austria, but i don`t like those vehicles. Not good in snow and useless in other conditions...

Started mounting the vfd`s today:

Ok, so i`m going to pick up this lathe soon:

I`ll have to redo the shop to find some room for it, but it`s possible. I`ll also have to rent a big crane to lift it over our house to my shop, because it`s to heavy to get it in through the house like we did it with the mill...

I also got some hydraulic pumps, so i can start the hydraulic system soon...

Started working on the pump today. One bolt was seized, but it gave up pretty soon:

This is going to be the drive shaft:

How it`ll be mounted. The bearing will be pressed on:

Milling the pocket:

Fit`s perfect:

Started over with the pump mount today. Pressed the bearing out of a pulley:

Turned a shaft for it:

This is how it goes together:

Made a centering pin for the coupler:

Tacked on the bearing unit:

Fully welded:

Then i faced it because of the welding warpage:

Couldn`t see what i was doing without getting a ****load of chips in my face so i mounted a mirror. Not nice but rare:

Fits:

The rear mounting plate:

Welded together:

This is where i`m going to mount it:

Also got some steering stuff:

Glad to see you are getting a lot of use out of that new lathe Steinez! That pulley fabrication looks super:Wow1:heavy duty! Any idea how far the Hågglund is away from a test drive? Keep up the good work my friend, cheers, Chilli....:)

This Space For Rent
Good lord. If I had half the time to mess around in the shop that you seem to have, I'd live out there! Good perserverence on this project. You're learning as you go and not afraid to make a mistake here and there. That is going to be some of the most valuable knowledge you'll ever get. I think you'll find that once this contraption is powered up there will be quite a bit of bending and snapping of possibly some driveshafts and other critical linkages, but again, this is where true knowledge comes from. Just make sure EVERYTHING is guarded well enough to keep you out of harms way if a driveshaft goes, hydraulic hose bursts, etc. The rig can be repaired but there are things that can happen to you during the carnage which can't. Keep up the good work.

PS: The shop is coming along nice. You're going to run into space issues soon which will cause you to figure out which tools you really need and which ones can either be combined or shrunk down to suit.

Thanks man, but i`m pretty sure that i`ll never going to sell any of my machines or tools...

Got the lathe in the shop today:

When complete, will the Mini exit the shop in a similar manor, but the opposite direction of the lathe?

As always, a fun and informative read!

Carry on,

Doug
