I think we should petition the moderators for a new sub forum for you. It could be called "Machineshop Mad-scientist". Glad to see you back posting...

Had to pause the hydraulic pump mount today because i need to place the alternator first:

So i started with the new articualted join. The mount is the only thing that will be used from the old one:

I need to cut a M75x2,5 thread in a 60cm long tube. In order to do this i need a big enough live center. I don`t have one, so i`ll build one. While the saw was cutting some steel for it i ground a thread cutter:

And tried it:

Then i started with the live center tip. First i dialed in the cone:

Then i started with the cone:

Fits:

And the tip:

Decided to build the hydraulic ram mounts first. So i cut a piece of steel:

And put the four jaw chuck in the lathe and started boring it out:

Are you tracking your weight? A few pounds(or kilos :D) here, a few there and suddenly your rigs weighs hundreds of pounds more than you thought. In a small snow vehicle, this starts to really matter.

No i don`t, i just wan`t to get it running. I can think about that when i built the next one. But, it`s not as heavy as it looks and i doubt it`ll see much snow...

Continued working on the ram mount:

Hi guys,
every winter we do some trips to our house in austria. There`s about 5-8feet of snow, so it`s impossible to reach it with a 4x4 (at least with the ones we can built in germany).

:D I was thinking EVERYTHING you build seems to be machined from blocks of steel - you are VERY good at this, but it's like a when your only tool is a hammer, every problem starts to look like a nail....

I tend to see a lot of stuff built up from laser-cut sheet steel welded together - but then - that's my version of "hammer" - I can't machine metal like you do.

Love the results, either way :D

Well, unfortunately this road was closed so i`m not allowed to go up there with a motorized vehicle any more...

But i`m going to start a side project that helps me get up there in the snow soon... :smiley_drive:
