LOL...I'll let Mark tell the story in his ride report. I suppose the Jeep tour guide was surprised when I got to the top of that large climb, because he exclaimed, "Impressive!" To which I replied "just trying to keep from scratching the running boards."

First impressions, from a run on Greasy Spoon in Sedona, Arizona:

Overall, the 100 series has to be the most comfortable Land Cruiser I've ever owned! I don't think I actually turned the a/c and automatic climate control off for the first week I had it, and actually had a "hot flash" that turned out to be my forgetting to turn the seat heater off!

Off pavement, the width and IFS takes some getting used to, coming off of a well-equipped Troopy and 70 series; but it is kinda fun having to really pick good lines and test driving finesse rather than just hitting the "magic" locker buttons.

The A-trac works well, the only learning curve being that one will use constant throttle and let the a-trac take over, rather than backing off the throttle when a wheel looses traction.

The suspension, while adequate for dirt roads, begins to get a bit soft when navigating tougher obstacles. The rear is fine; however, with the IFS in the front, the nose can dive, reducing clearance under the front diff as well as causing the running boards, which are already dangerously low, to become fodder for the ledge the front just dropped off of! Of course, slowing down can do a lot to negate this effect.

So, my thoughts so far: Uprated springs with about a 2-2.5" lift should do the trick; along with running board (and front brushbar) removal.

Nice truck Andrew! You've certainly been advised by now but just be mindful of shock load (ATRAC or otherwise) and/or spinning those front wheels...the front ring carrier has enough flex on these to, under the right (or wrong :coffeedrink:) conditions, increase the load on a given tooth/engagement...that results in a ripped R&P/planetary gears and you having to: Disassemble the drive plates, remove the front drive-shaft to get home...oh yeah and open zee wallet. ARB front locker is the upfront fix.

Yup, I've seen first hand how that can happen...I was around when Mr. May of Equipt got a chance to "upgrade" to an ARB!

Curoius what prompted the sale of the 70 mate??? Was it a size of family and hauling needs issue??? Seems like we all ant a 70 of some sort and you've had the best of all the cruisers IMO. Glad to see you're liking the Hundy and I'm sure with a few well thought out mods you'll be just as comfy in her as the 45 or the 70. Subscribed to build ;)

Cheers

Really it's a gear and family size issue. I found I filled up the 70 pretty quick with the kiddo as well as sar gear and general equipment. The spouse also reqeusted something a bit more "travel friendly"....so here we are!

Congratulations! The 100 is a great family suv. Thankfully, I've been able to keep both my 100 and 70. As you already know, they are completely different animals.

Had a bit of a road trip this weekend...takin' the 100 out to SEMA. :coffeedrink:

First long road trip, and I noticed a distinct difference between the 70 and the 100...when I arrived in Vegas I wasn't beat, sweaty and windblown! The factory navigation, even with a 10 year old map disk, was spot on and a great time saver!

Got better mileage than I expected too! Even with a heck of a headwind, I had to do some driving around Vegas to burn off a bit of extra fuel per SEMA rules regarding 1/4 tank or less for inside booth vehicles.

I flew back to Flagstaff before the African Outback Products installs started...but should have some pics of the first changes soon!
