Project Velcro Sneakers: A Sportsmobile/MG Metalworks/UJOR build

Front Axle

My front axle is a Dana 60 out of a 2013 F250. Yes, it does have massive brakes! I do plan a locker for the future, but in the name of domestic tranquility I'll do that another time. I did have one big splurge though. Not really sure that it was the best idea, but it was easy enough to do up front and should save some work and expenditure later. I went with a Dynatrac Free-Spin kit to replace the factory unit bearings, Dynatrac hubs (hubs weren't included in my axle), and Dynatrac rebuildable upper and lower ball joints. Allen's Offroad in Oregon had all the Dynatrac stuff about 10% cheaper than anyone else - great service too. Dynatrac sure makes some pretty stuff. Dynatrac kit included bearings and seals. Also installed new brake pads and had the rotors turned. All steering components new as well.

Thanks, happy to help.

We've been joking at the shop, when will we "DeMG" a van? We can sell someone the MG kit, then switch it to the UJ kit. That business model seems to work well for the drug companies right?

I'll make MILLIONS! ha

That's funny, WE have been talking about when the first DeUjointification will be, now with you carrying his kit you might be the first. ;)

OK. No time to start like the present. Made a cuppa then:

In two coffees and 2.5 hours I had the suspension off. I have more pics of the process, but nothing too exciting. Lunch, then the cutting and drilling begins.

Part 1 mostly completed. MG's kit is pretty simple and the quality is fantastic, including some very thoughtful designs that make it easy to install.

Working alone except for placement of the axle, I've probably spent 10 hours on it. Michael was super helpful with timely responses to questions - Thanks MG!

I burned a few hours trying to figure out how to make the kit work with 2wd for a while while I found some more time to work on the van. The radius arm brackets mount where the stock 2wd crossmember goes, so some significant adaptation would be needed to get the crossmember to work - needed to support back of tranny.

Now I have some rear end to play with...

Well at least someone can see the images in this thread. They're all broken links for me.
