"Q" Flight's RB E250 Quigley Build

Oh the grief I have gotten for pulling off that hitch! Don't worry, it's safe and ready to pop back in if I ever need it. I just never tow, so I'd rather the clearance and the taller look.

Rack testing has gone well. Still not at full length or fully bolted together, but still a beast.

In other news this sideways configuration was the death of 2 small trees on the trail, and a random sign inside a tight turn. Whoops!

Looking towards having one of these awnings tents custom built to be mounted on the passenger side with added length and height for a perfect fit.

I've started what I guess would be the "door chapter" of my build.

My rear side door locker/empty beer can hide away has started taking shape.

Passenger door deadened inside and out. It also has foam insulation built into the panel.

Cut out the driver's rear barn door and front side door for recessed shelves.

Unfortunately you can't do the passenger rear barn door because of the license plate holder. If you were to cut out the handle section of a donor front barn door I think it could be slipped right in there. Seems like a lot of work for a little cubby though. I noticed sportsmobile doesn't bother.

Doors were completed a while ago and it has been a game changer!

The can hideaway has a chute which feeds into a trash bag.

It's been an awesome summer of weekends in Q. Still awesome as my daily driver, and weekend rig.

I spent the month of September living and working out of Q. Work was 4am-10ish, then I ripped back into the mountains to play until it was time to pass out early. This was definitely the perfect environment for a light duty build like this. In previous stints living out of a truck, or Subaru this would have been miserable, even with perfect weather. I always had fresh food, cool drinks, a place to hang out, and a comfy bed at night.

Unfortunately my paddling schedule has been too aggressive to allow the down time for Q to get body work and a paint job. Being bright orange didn't help when it came to getting woken up by Border Patrol one night, and it made otherwise good stealthy spots near roads unusable.

During this period I started visiting junk yards for the first time. Wow! All the money I have wasted on parts until now! For $100 I got 4 tilt out windows for the side and rear doors, 2 new front pillars with the new style grab handles, and a new rear door sill plate. Online that would have been $800+

Tilt out windows were a game changer. I will sleep with them open even in the rain. The cross breeze is just so nice! I'll be making up screens for them this winter to keep the bugs out.

The Domitec fridge died during this trip. It seems I shook it to death on back roads. A solid slam will kick it back to life until the next good jolt. Hopefully their warranty is as good as they claim.

Finally the door pockets have been absolutely amazing! I know exactly where everything is, and the extra space makes a huge difference. Despite being in the van for a month I was never digging around looking for stuff, and the van stayed neat at all times. I am extremely tempted to go get a rear right door, use donor steel and handle from a front passenger side door to make the license plate holder disappear, build pockets into the inside, and relocate my license plate and light to the bumper. Then when I do the pain job I can just swap doors and have all that storage. If I do a rear gear swing away I'd be moving the plate and doing that wiring anyway.

Could you explain a little more how you modified the door for the towing mirrors? I would like to do that, but can't exactly tell what you did.

I wish there were photos because then I'd remember better. Basically fake it till you make it.

Pretty sure it goes like this:
Each mirror has a foam gasket. Using that bad boy as a template use a pen to mark out the holes where the 4 posts are going to go on the outside of the door. Put a starter hole in the center of each, then follow with a hole saw a little smaller diameter than the gasket hole. Drill from the outside of the door into the inner door. Pray that all the studs line up and you can bolt her up. Realize you botched it, and start widening holes until she fits.

I've pretty much decided I'm swapping bases again and getting the lit up tow mirrors on Q. At that point maybe I can get more media

Basicly the same thing I did with an emphisis on widening the holes untill she fits haha

Oh yeah- final step:

Realize the black covers don't fit because the studs hit. Curse for while you locate a grinder. "So damn close!" Cut those bad boys off at the threads and send'er

Junkyard, for like 60 bucks if I remember but I was specificly looking for non power mirrors
