Renegade concept at Detroit Auto Show

Interesting speculation on the KL and Renegade:

"But CarAdvice has learnt that a manual Renegade Trailhawk – fitted with the 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder and six-speed gearbox – could be on the cards, while a diesel version of the Cherokee Trailhawk using the 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine currently reserved for the regular models is also in the works."

Excited, excited, excited.
flips page and...

Just noticed that CarAdvice is an Aussie website.

Awe man what a disappointment.
ROFL...

We all need to move to Australia so we can get the cool toys. :)

I would only disagree on the" Hate" coming from ignorance" part of your statement.
Everyone knows ignorance is bliss, not hate...
ROFL. ;)
Otherwise, (imo) you've hit the nail on the head.

How cool would it be for a group of college students to cross the TAT in Trail Hawk Renegades. Maybe lead by some experienced Overlanders who write for a competent overlanding magazine... :)
Would be a great piece of marketing for Jeep.

Might as well toss in the FDII patriot as well to do a comparison between how the trailhawk and Pat compare to each other.

I'd tend to agree, but then I'm biased. :sombrero:

As am I, 100% FDII Patriot, for all these reasons and then some.

Yeah, they still make the Patriot/Compass. Sales-wise they're doing better than ever. The new C-SUV is supposed to be out next year.

Okay, now they're saying the new C-SUV to replace the Patriot/Compass will be revealed in 2016 and available in 2017.

The MK is a tough act to follow.

I can't believe how little attention this picture gathered. Is this confirmed to be real, because if so: Awesome.

Not even a trailhawk model. Hopefully that doesn't mean that this will only be possible on the non-trailhawk trims. I don't see how that would make sense, since I believe they all use the same suspension set up.

This picture excites me.

I think comparing the Renegade to a Subaru would be very interesting - there is so much that the new renegade offers that subaru doesn't match - being able to drive with an open roof, the 20:1 crawl ratio - larger tire sizes... doesn't seem to be much of a comparison actually...

Would love to see a listing side by side of the two...

This Renegade may be the Euro version of the Trailhawk, they don't get tow hooks, at least not up front.

Well, Subaru also does not market to be anything of a crawler, so there is that...

I wish Subaru kept the forester as the original was, instead of turning it into a rav4. Poor thing. They should have kept it as a square body style, high ground clearance and great interior space. instead they made it into a vanilla boring Japanese ride. Oh well, at least the xv is still there.

Like it or not, the compact CUV market is rapidly growing. Many of the offerings have AWD systems that leave a lot to be desired, so it'll be nice to have at least one offering with a decently capable system. That vehicle may as well be a Jeep. Sure, it's no Wrangler, but at least it has some capability to go off-road, and certainly runs circles around everything else in its class. If Jeep can sell a ton of these and thereby have the money and CAFE credits to continue producing the Wrangler as an actual off-road vehicle, then more power to them.

As the owner of Subarus and a Suzuki SX4, I have a strong affinity for AWD vehicles that "punch above their weight." The biggest shortcomings of the Renegade are its lack of a proper rear diff lock, lack of an actual low-range, and the manual transmission being unavailable with the Trailhawk. The belly-dragging ground clearance can hopefully be fixed, unlike the Cherokee. We'll see what the aftermarket can do to improve the Renegade.

I am still not a fan of the newer body styles. I will be keeping my 99 until it really gives up the ghost, or the wife forces me to upgrade. The tranny is already funky in cold weather, and the head gasket is seepy. Those two repairs alone are more than the worth of the vehicle itself.

Worth every penny to fix if the body is good. New ones are lackluster at best.

The car lot I took it off of was shady, and is no longer around. I am pretty sure it was a bodyshop auction from WV. So as I go through the thing, and learn to wrench myself, I am finding all kids of things that keep adding up. The only thing bodywise that is bad, is the dust spoiler thing broke(and sliced my hand), and left the bolts in(cant remove without ripping the body a bit due to rust), and the running boards are tetanus heaven. So this thing is going to stick around.
