Yeah I was looking into deaver or Alcan for that. Another thing to replace... sigh. Might just do SAW torsion bars too at the same time. More stuff to add gaah

Rust does a body good.
From my research It's fairly common on the stock springs. An add a leaf can help out but using shackles alone can accelerate the wear. I'd run what you have for now and just keep an eye on that middle leaf. Once the go bad have Alcan hook you up. If they need a truck for reference to build a pack we are a few miles away.

That's the plan! Thanks for the offering as well. With an addition of a rear carrier and additional rear load, I may just end up doing this route to keep it as simple as possible and as close to the stock height as well. Just a higher spring rate with the current stock heighted Bilsteins for ease of replacement.

BTW, what happens when the middle leaf decides to go? Does the truck just lose ride height and become plushy with a crack in the leaf? Or does it also look catastrophically wrong as well?

Depends how it fails. Both mine cracked right in half, but with the weight of the truck on them they didn't fall out. The ride just gets rough and loud.

Once I had it on the lift I could pull it out with one hand.

Usually they break right before or after the ubolts where they are held to the axle.

Good to know mortonm.

I did a quick Google image search and found quite a few different types of breakage. Found one picture where the entire leaf pack broke clean in half. Yikes!

I'll definitely keep an eye on these things since there's a bit of rust on it too which doesn't help the situation. I'm sure there's still a hefty amount of mileage left on the springs.

I'm flipping through your pictures again while I'm supposed to be working lol, but anyway, where'd you get those American Flag decals on your doors?

No worries, I do the same at work too... Makes me just want to get out and enjoy the outdoors instead of being cooped up inside an office with SolidWorks and shop fumes everyday.

www.weaponstickers.com Under Die-Cut Decals: "Stars and Stripes 6.5in x 3.75in" I ordered the forward and reverse decal. I actually found the link via another ExPo member here with a silver 2nd gen Frontier.

Cool, thanks!

No problemo. :) Rock those stickers. I've got some Gadsden Flags I have yet to slap on.

So the girlfriend and I will be driving out for a short trip to Colorado next Wednesday through Sunday. Should be fun. We're hoping to see some actual rain and snow, unlike the useless storm we had last weekend. The rain seems to avoid my side of town. Anyways, I'll be getting the truck ready for the long trip until then (oil change, fluid check, tire pressure, and a brief mechanical lookover). We'll be coming back with some goodies on the truck (hopefully), also maybe even dropping by deustcheoptik along the way to pick up some jerry cans. Unfortunately due to the expected weather, camping will most likely not happen along the way. Can't wait as this is the first trip of the year.

I'll be heading to Boulder after I drop by Blackhawk to pick up a rear bumper. I-15 north to the I-70 east. We'll be staying at Arches Natnl Park or Moab Wednesday night, and driving through the park the next morning to Blackhawk with stops in towns along the way.

Just found your build; great looking X!

By the way, I meant to ask - what kind of camera were these shots taken with? They all look so good!

Thanks! I've seen your build on XN and it looks great as well! There are some pretty sweet builds on there.

I shoot with a Nikon D80 with a Sigma f/2.8 17-55mm lens. Wish I had some extra funds to pick up a few filters but this will do.
