Thanks! I've seen your build on XN and it looks great as well! There are some pretty sweet builds on there.

I shoot with a Nikon D80 with a Sigma f/2.8 17-55mm lens. Wish I had some extra funds to pick up a few filters but this will do.

Thank you sir!

A D80? That explains it. Makes me miss my D200...

That sounds like a good all rounder lens. I'm saving up for a 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6. Not exactly fast, but it's good for all my travel and outside needs. Indoor shots will be performed by my 35mm f/1.8 and future 50mm f/1.8.

The Nikon f/1.8 35mm lens is a great lens for the price. I really want that f/1.8 but I think I'd rather just invest in a Nikon SB-700. I really don't need another add-on for my camera. I always keep a limit to my hobbies now. :(

So we literally got back into Los Angeles this morning around 9:30am. I drove 12 hours straight, with the co-driver/girlfriend taking over for the rest of the few remaining hours... and then went straight into work as they called me just when I was grabbing lunch with the girlfriend. Totally bummed out but work is work and I went in zombified.

Well I'm happy to report, the truck made it 2,xxx mile road trip with no problems except for nasty head/cross winds.

And the most important part, the rear bumper sitting in the cargo area. Needs a little love with sanding and paint, but overall it looks great and near-ready to slap on the rear. The rear sags a decent bit with it laying in the space; enough for the headlights to blind on-coming traffic, so new leaf packs are now being considered (an additional 250lb weight with full jerries in addition to the underbody spare).

A trip report will ensue once I shuffle through the 1000+ pictures we took... it's going to take awhile.

Looking forward to it!

Ooooh, exciting. I might have missed it, but what kind is it? Skip work, upload bumper pron!

I'd love to skip work for one day and just get this thing back down to bare metal and primer/paint it. But for now, it sits in my trunk waiting for that perfect day, rattling about driving me crazy while I drive..

Yikes. Are you guys stripping the original coating? If you're just stripping paint, try Aircraft Paint Stripper, typically found at your local auto parts store. Strips everything (clearcoat, paint and everything in between) down to the bare metal. Of course it'll eat your skin as well, so make sure to wear pants, gloves and long sleeve shirt. Gets messy with all the residual gunk left over after it eats everything, but just hose it all down.

Here's the bumper I picked up while on my trip out to Colorado. It is Casper's (Josh) old rear bumper/swing out. A modified Calmini unit to accommodate a dual swing out with two AT jerrycan holders. Man these AT jerry holders are **********' heavy! Heck, this entire assembly is heavy as hell. I might end up drilling out some holes on the backside of things to lighten it up a bit. We'll see if and how once I get a clear day to look over it more carefully.
This pic will do for now until the process of revitalizing this bumper begins. :)

We're are only doing a partial strip. Once we get it all smoothed out we are going to coat it in durabak.

Nice. Good luck. I know I'll have my hands full getting this refinished. :)

:D you wish heheh. It actually is in better condition than I expected. A few dings, dents, and scratches here and there, but nothing that cannot be fixed.

My lord, I am SO jealous that you ended up with his bumper. I've always loved that thing.

Take good care of it ;)

I will. :) I'm pretty stoked to have picked this up. It still hasn't hit me that it's mine. Once it's on the truck, then I think I'll realize what a sweet piece of a55 I really have.

Congrats on your new (to you) purchase. If you need a hand installing it on your X let me know. I'm sure its probably too heavy for 1-2 guys to hold it in place and run some bolts.
I'll be waiting for some trip pics as well.

Alright. So it's late and I'm going to keep this short. Kind of... as short as I can.

Day 1:

Left home to pick up the girlfriend in Long Beach at 4am. Headed out onto I-15 North. Stopped at the usual Barstow Station MickeyD's to grab some breakfast off of Main Street and then off we go. A pure road trip. We stopped occasionally along the way to snap some pictures and take breaks. Stopped at the Chinatown of Vegas to pick up some supplies at the 99Ranch Market and get some Boba for the girlfriend. Made our way to I-70 East towards Denver where our first stop of the night would be Oowah Campground south of Moab. We got into Moab around 9:30pm and decided it was better for us find a site along the Colorado River south of Arches NP. It would be another hour and a half if we decided to head to Oowah and with temps dropping, it was a good idea we didn't. We drove along Hwy128 where we found a few BLM campgrounds but they were all full except one tucked away between the larger two. We luckily found a perfect spot along the river away from the bigger sites and camped for the night.

Finally on the road!

At 99Ranch Market for supply pickup

Obligatory boba for the girlfriend

A quick pic of the Arizona border sign! Too tired to pose. You'll see what we always do at sign pictures.

Quick stop at a trading post somewhere along I-15 North before I-70 East.

Rockin some camo

Snack for the entire trip

Finally at I-70 East!

Unfortunately along the way, we missed the Utah sign and the opportunity to pose... :(

One of my favorite pictures of this trip. Sunset in Utah.

Stretch break at Devil's Canyon Lookout in Utah:

Gotta rock the sticker :)
