*Rickashay's 04' Tundra* - A build of Compromises

If you don't mind can you PM me where you got the field unit or whatever its called? Also how much you got it for? I've been eyeballing one of those for a while but I can see it being hard to justify if it has the typical "JDM tax" this type of stuff usually has.

Love all your builds BTW. Your level of OCD is high and actually makes me feel better about how much time I spend in order to "do something correctly" :sombrero:. Hehe

I actually got it given to me by a friend when I had my 3rd Gen 4Runner. I think they were selling for 250-$300 on T4R.org for a while because someone in the military was stationed over there and was buying them up and selling them to members. Look into the Subaru field monitor, it's made by the same company and the display looks identical, it just goes in a DIN slot also. Should be cheaper too!

Thanks, being OCD can be difficult because it takes me too long to make a decision then even longer to execute it. hahah

Can you post a pic of your twin compressor mount?

That may be difficult. It's a royal PITA to install/remove as I need to pull the airbox and the mounting point are pretty tight. I can do my best to get a better shot of it installed next time I'm in the garage though. I used 2 mounting points on the top of the fender that were threaded for a 10mm bolts. I had to slightly move the ABS module by rotating it clockwise. I then drilled one hole through the fender to have a third mounting point, and have a SS "low profile" bolt coming up from the fender and bolting to the bracket. 3 bolts and it's pretty secure. The section where the solenoids will go is kind of free floating. Pics will show more of what I'm trying to say... I should be back to my garage before the weeks end.

Well going along with my other thread.... Just ordered my Chevy 63" leaf swap kit from Ruff Stuff.

Just here...
How is the backseat room? I am seriously considering a 1st gen but have one child. Rear facing seat for a while. What do you think?

I have had both AC and Dc and with a child my two Lincolns are on the DC, you will grow into instead of out of! For ref. one of my sons is now 6'6" and fits comfortably in the DC, even when he was younger he was cramped in the AC!

With one child, the AC works for us. Two rear facing is a no go. Maybe, big maybe, a rear facing and forward facing would work but it would be tight. We have the rear facing in the middle seat, a 60# lab behind the driver, and a 30# terrier behind the passenger. Works for us.

When we need to go bigger we will probably go to a 4runner or DC Taco. The AC Tundra IMO is the biggest we could go for the type of wheeling we do, and it still feels chunky.

Once our daughter is forward facing I think things will be perfect.

Finally got my ARB diff breather in. Going to be extending the factory trans/front diff lines and running them into the manifold when I have time but the rear was a must do.

Ran down to my Montana mailbox to pick up my Chevy 63 kit, front ARB, and headers but the Chevy 63 kit hadn't shown up yet, so I'll have to make another trip down soon unfortunately. Here are the Unicorns, thanks for the tip Connor!

Really can't wait to get these installed. I've been talking to Keith at DirtyDeedsIndustries and will probably be buying cats and Y-pipe from him to complete my exhaust.

A shot from last weekend for posterity, just glad to be out and enjoying the outdoors in the Tundra. Even when I don't use it for wheeling, I just enjoy driving it.

Yah the front diff breather is to the right and below the oil filler tube. Look down by the wheel well kind by the driver motor mount. You will see two breather caps there.

The TRD long tube headers are as rare as they come because Toyota stopped making them in 04? Yes carb legal. These ones in particular have never been installed on a turck before and were sitting in some guys garage in Arizona. You probably will have a hard time ever finding a set!

Wow never seen those headers that's sick!

Haha yah I'm pretty pumped. Especially because with the full exhaust I should see gains of 25-30 WHP as proven by Keiths dyno numbers. Yes WHP. Should feel like a new truck with the exhaust and the 4.56 gears.

Scored them for $650 US Shipped. Apparently they were like $1500 MSRP back in the day.

Retrofitted Tundra Headlights

Some of you may know, I used to have a small business retrofitting headlights with HID projectors. I still maintain a good relationship with the guys at TRS (the Retrofit Source). This weekend I actually finished my last retrofit through my business ("Headlight Hookup") as me and my business partner used this venture for extra spending money while I went through business school. Retrofitting headlights actually was what allowed me to build my 4Runner while I was going through University. With my recent move to a Calgary and my "profession" keeping me busy enough on it's own, we decided to split our remaining assets and stop doing headlights.

Now, with that being said.... I have some HID components sitting on the shelf that need ot get put to good use. I can talk more specifics later but I was thinking of offering 3-4 sets of 1st Gen Retrofitted Tundra headlights up for sale. This is a feeler before I get into all the details but if I were to do this I would take a deposit and build all of them at once. Then ship them out accordingly. I would use new TYC replacement lamps so there would be no downtime on anyones truck and would enable the buyers to sell there OEM units to re-coup some of the costs. I would keep it fairly simple with paint and shroud being the only options. No LED's or anything that would cause future issues down the road. At this time I only want to do Tundra's so that I can do them all at once and keep the logistics simple. Not to mention I can use my own Tundra for measurements if needed. I will provide some photos of my previous work today after work.

This would be a one time deal as I am getting out of the business.

Included:
- New TYC Tundra headlight housings
- Morimoto 3Five (35w) HID ballasts
- FX-R 2.5" Bi-Xenon (low and high beam) projectors
- H4 relay harness
- Shrouds
- Retrofit labor

Price - $600 US + Ship + PP per set. This is exceptionally cheaper than I would have charged through my business especially considering the FX-R componentd and not the cheaper and easier to install Morimoto Mini projectors.

Not trying to become a vendor or violate any forum rules. Just want to sell my leftover components and might as well provide the labor and get some Tundra owners set up with some proper lighting for their headlights. Please relay any questions or interest to me via PM.

Link to my previous headlight work. Several detailed photos of light output. In the earlier pages you can see a direct comparison of a "drop in" HID kit vs. a set of projectors.

Thanks,
Addison

Awsesome.

I'm guessing that retrofit price wouldn't include the 06 headlights?

Forgot about the 05, 06 headlights. Let me look into my supplier and see what they are worth. I would just have to ad the difference of the newer lights onto the final cost, but I don't expect them to be too much different. I'll get the pricing nailed down in the next couple days for all options.

I'll be doing 4 sets total as of today, so first come first serve. If I can't fill the orders here I will head over to TundraSolutions.
