*Rickashay's 04' Tundra* - A build of Compromises

Will be watching for that rear set up. I just hate its unsure on how much lift. Obviously it will depend on spring life and shackle length. All the crawlers in my area with 63/ run blocks as well.

The Tundra is technically a "full-size" so I expect most of my lift to come from the shackle, keeping the spring relatively flat. If I could gain only 1.5-2" of lift, I would be happier than a pig in ******t. Fingers crossed. Lots of way to adjust after the fact though.... If I get too much lift, I might just have to run 37's to fill the wheel wells. haha

UPDATE - March 21, 2015

Despite the lack of photos I'v actually been putting in a lot of time on the truck lately.

I picked up the rear diff from the Gear Shop on Friday. Front was almost done too but I knew I wouldnt get around to installing it this weekend anyway, so I said "take your time" and left it with them for a few more days. Rear diff is installed. Still need to button up the axle shafts and e-brake but I'll do that when the o-rings I need get it. After that, my good friend and I started on the headers. We are into the job now for about 6-7 hours of wrench turning with the rest of the time being messing around with the jack/blocks and getting the old rear portion of the exhaust out while helping my brother with a few things on his 4Runner.

As it sits now, the old headers and entire exhaust is out and it's ready to have the gaskets put on and the headers bolted up. We removed both motor mounts entirely and the engine is being supported by the floor jack. Doing this gives you a ton more room.

Old vs. New:

Oh, and last week I got these new Morimoto LED turn signal bulbs. They are CRAZY bright and look awesome! I'lll get some pics when the truck is out of the garage. They are amber when illuminated.

I was originally going to just throw the headers in, but at the last minute I decided I wanted to heat wrap them first. This job is not something I EVER plan on doing again so I might as well not take any shortcuts. The heat wrap can't do any harm and with heat being a common enemy of any lifted/big tired/heavy offroad rig I thought it was worth the effort.

Also threw this together last week. I only had limited footage to work with but still a good start to working with video. Can't wait for the summer when I will have more footage than I can use to pick from.

How much gain are you looking to gain over stock exhaust? I think the new certainly looks like it will flow much better.

Some says around 30hp. Although mpg doesn't change.

Keith at DirtyDeeds has dyno charts (look here: http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/1gen-tundra/231680-official-1st-gen-long-tube-headers-4/) that with long tubes (his longtubes, not the TRD's that I have) and his full exhaust system, the gains are around 33 hp and 34 ft/lbs at the wheels. Obviously there will be some variance here, but even he said the TRD headers and my Borla catback, with the DirtyDeeds center section should equate to a very similar number. Hell, even if I gain 25hp/torque at the wheels I'd be extremely happy. MPG is said to increase too, but I'll test that myself comparing my current figures against the new ones. Not to mention, the first time I drive the truck again with the new headers, I'll also have the 4.56 gears installed. Going to feel like a monster! haha

I run one of Keith's exhausts on my Sequoia. Soooo nice!!! But being in CA had to pass on the headers.

JBA headers will work for you! They do make a difference, one of the better mods I did to my tundra, after the ARB that is....

Heard to many mix reviews with JBA and that is why I only wanted trd even if I never got them.

All your talks about the TRD headers are making me change my priorities about installing mine. I have the S&S long tubes sitting on shelf yelling at me. LOL! Yes, I'm in Cali and will still be installing them with a few mods to it. :ylsmoke:

I'm in ca and I would do non carb legal headers they anyone made good ones. Most smog places can't tell if they are aftermarket headers or not. As long as you don't have chrome or black headers.
I have headers on my 88 runner 3.0 and smog can't even tell.

Helps to go back to same smog place and creating a relationship. For me I take all my families cars there so it's easy for me lol
