This is common on chevys. Thats why its best to replace the fuel pump module and not just the fuel pump at the end of the pickup.

You are new to these vans, give it time. Once your fuel pump issues are taken care of you'll see how reliable these things are.

I know, it's just tough when you have both vehicles down and have to borrow a car to get around. Aside from the van fuel problems which should now be completely solved because everything in the delivery chain has been replaced, the sidekick is down with a bad throttle position sensor. I have the replacement but don't have the meter to install it correctly so I have to wait till my mechanic frees up on Monday to get that resolved. I can't wait to start driving that again to work, the gas mileage is about double of the Astro.

Here is astro van fuel pump assembly.

Here is the burnt connection causing the problem.

Here is the fuel pump again, with the black connector disconnected which is supposed to be plugged in, inside the tank. That also has burnt terminal ends.

This is all from a customers astro van that was towed in for no start. So, as RK figured out and for future reference, replace the complete fuel pump module.

Absolutely fine with me - hopefully it prevents anyone else from having to drop the tank twice like I did (or if I would have just has that access hole...)

BTW I still have the spare key and remote, troubleshooting manual and airbag plug lead for the E350 if you still want it (think I might also have a spare CPS as well). Shoot me your addy and I can ship it unless you're headed this direction anytime soon.

I'm receiving my AWD Astro on Saturday. It's an early 90s model (old style front end) and has been sitting since about 2004 when it failed an emissions test. I'm getting it for $500 and will need to clean the fuel system, replace the EGR and flush all fluids. I want to replace the fuel pump assembly as well. Rock Auto lists a Delphi unit that is the complete assembly for a little over $200. Is that the one i want?

What else should i do with a rig that has been sitting that long? The owner says he started it up on occasion just to let it run for a bit. I'm hoping to make a trip in it on Labor Day weekend.

So if anyone is contemplating installing a single DIN head unit I will strongly recommend the Clarion CZ500. Bang for the buck I dont think this thing can be beat. I am gearing stations at my house from LA that I havent been able to get with any other stereo, including a high dollar Pioneer unit. AM/FM/CD/USB/iPod & iPhone control/Aux Input AND bluetooth both for your phone and stereo streaming from your smart phone, and includes a wireless remote. Yes its awesome to have Pandora wireless through my stereo! Its also HD & Satellite radio upgradable as well. On sale for $146 to my door with all the install goodies, Crutchfield came through again.

Terry, that looks like a good car stereo. Been trying to find an equivalent to my JVC KD-BT100 that I LOVE (have two if them in two cars), but is now impossible to find.

Never understood why a basic music player w/ BT is so hard to come by for a decent price, but that looks like it fits the bill.

Have you used the Bluetooth part of it? With what phone? If that's at all serviceable, then I'll probably pick that unit up. The JVC BT worked fantastically well with my Blackberry, and works "pretty well" with my Android, so I was looking to stick with that, but they don't have an equivalent model anymore...

Thanks!

Yes, works flawlessly with both my Verizon Thunderbolt and the wifes Samsung Fascinate on both phone and streaming stereo stored music or Pandora/equivilent. The same unit is selling on Amazon for $120 but Crutchfield throws in the mounting kit, vehicle harness adapter and excellent tailored instructions and live phone support thats worth the few extra bucks, plus free shipping.

So I'm currently in serious contemplation of removing the lower side cladding altogether to make painting easier, and eliminate the chance of crud making its way up in there and starting rust. Since I now have plans of doing the paint myself, it will make it easier, and I'll be able to tuck the planned rock slider/steps up closer to the rockers without interference with the plastic. I admit I like the look of the cladding better, makes the whole van look more substantial - any reasons for or against cladding removal or retention? Any nightmares I'm going to have to deal with taking it off? Opinions?

Green has cladding, Grumpy does not. The cladding protects the body's paint from rock chips and the like, but the stock mounting hardware is cheap thin steel and does not like road salt. Thus Green's cladding is starting to sag. Grumpy has rust where the paint was chipped due to the lack of cladding.

For a van that will see significant time off road I really like the idea of bedlining the lower body. Grumpy will have the entire cladding area done in bedliner once I get around to painting it.

Isnt there a section of cladding held on with more than just adhesive? Is that cheap thin steel in every section or just one? Spot welded or riveted? How hard is the whole shebang to remove? I have a couple of areas planned for bedliner material, lower rockers and roof to be exact, and both will be body color.
