I want to basically run all my accessories to the spare battery as to not run down the starting battery. I also want to be able an use the second battery to start the XK if the primary battery fails. Do you hook the second battery up to the positive on the primary battery threw a switch or do you run the power to the solenoid instead. What is the best way to charge the second battery? Should I charge it off the alternator? Or run a wire from the primary battery using a isolator or one way flow? I don't want to reinvent the wheel here so and advice is helpful.

This is an isolator. This charges 2 batteries at once and one battery does not
drain the other.

This switch allows you to charge both batteries at once and allows you to
switch between batteries.

Use battery A or B or both or total shut off. There is a make before break
contact so you can switch between batteries without losing contact.

Here is a link to a thread that explains it very well. You do not need to rewire
everything.

Dual Batteries

This allows you to switch your battery your kids don't run your
battery when they leave the ignition on overnight playing video games,
watching movies or listening to the radio. As you may recall our first meet...
which is exactly what happened to me.

Awesome great info I'll go read that thread. Your kids killing your battery is one reason I planned on this mod. I kept getting nervous and started my jeep every 20 minuets because my daughter was using the laptop and sal was watching a movie.

the switch may go in the glove box, run the wires thru the firewall.
Or under the hood. This will only require 1 switch and 2 battery cables.

New storage box (jack area)

So hoaxci5 posts last night on JeepForum about making a storage box from the jack area. So I'm like great idea so today I took a crack at it. Now look before you guys say anything about it keep in mine it cost me $2.50 so far and thats for the hinges. I grabbed what ever I had laying around the house to put this together and so far I'm thrilled with it. Ok so here are the pics.

Removed the jack and the stock storage box for it.

I decided not to make an actual box for a few reasons. One it would probably cost me money. Second that area is not square and has lots of things in it to build around which meant I would have had to make a much smaller box then the space that is available.

Ok so I have it down to bare bones and now understand what hoaxci5 was talking about with support.

I decided to go with a hinged lid so I fitted a piece of wood to anchor and attach the lid to. I also decided to paint every think black until I figure out what to cover it with.

I got the two pieces connected with hinges and was looking good.

I had to make some adjustments to make it work

Then I decided to add a back to it keep things in place, it's left over laminate wood flooring LOL. It served a second purpose of adding support to the thing as well.

So this is it fully loaded

Here is a shot of all the stuff I have in it right now. I was able to get rid of my tool box I carried as well :D

I still have to make a front face for it, it got late so I'll have to go back and do it later.

I don't have heat or AC in the back, looks like you do. Are you going to vent
the ducts? How does that work?
You can gain a good amount of space taking the factory molded box out and
laying out your gear better, like you have done.

Ya I had a giant tool box I always carried in the back and I was able to get rid of it. The ducts down there I think are for the feet setting in the back but I never used that at all always have the back set on the vent setting so I might just cut them out and make more room for gear.:smiley_drive:

It's been a while since my last update but I have been working on the XK.

First I installed moroe load leveling shocks the ones that come wrapped in a helper spring. I got some about 3" longer then stock. It pushed my rear up about 1.5" but I don't mind that at 1200LBS of cargo about 300LBS of that on a hitch basket the jeep sits level and behaves on the highway as well. My drive way is slopped so it makes the angle look a lot worse then it is.

Because of this extra lift I could no longer get in the garage ( Don't ask how I got out) So I had to drop my basket or loose it. I decided to go with uni-strut the stuff works out great has so many mounting options and you're only limited my your imagination. Also for a total $18 for everything needed cant go wrong

Got my fishing rod holders put back on

The other project I just finished up was painting my bumpers and wheel flares. I still have to do the doors but I'm liking the way its turning out.

Like the practicality of your build. Hope we can wheel together at URE next season. Should have my xj ready to go by then.

Thanks man! My plan is to be able to get from point A to B in one piece and in comfort. I go to URE all the time I have a blast out there and I see it as a testing ground for my build. Let me know when you're going hopefully I can make it.
