Scopes

As stated I am a leopold guy myself. When I turned 13 my father bought me my ruger M77 featherlight used (Tack driver). It had a Bushnell 3-9x40 on it already so I left well enough alone until I received a great christmas gift of a Leopold VXII when I was 25. The Bushnell is great scope and its found its way onto my 22-250 now and still works just fine. Scratched, dented, submerged, it still works great. I barrel sighted it to 100 and then nailed 5 for 5 at 100 & 200 (love this rifle).

NWOODS,

I am mostly a lurker and the preponderance of my posts are questions. I am now mostly retired in Southern Colorado near Trinidad, at the end of a dirt road in a box canyon. I can wheel from my house and shoot 600+ yards. I have some MGM steel set up for rifle and a couple of auto traps, besides the pistol range.

I hunt as much and as often as I can. My standard line is that I would hunt field mice if I could find a good place. I still teach at Gunsite but not nearly as much as I did in the past.

I was stationed in San Diego once and was also at USC, 74-77.

How 'bout voles? I can offer the place and various caliber arms. In addition, if you want to move up the scale yellow-bellied marmots (aka rock chucks) abound. :sombrero:

Sounds like an opportunity! Are they dangerous when wounded? ;>)

I do get up to Palma to hunt with Jim Wall (USPSA GM and VP w/ Milt Sparks leather) but for Upland game.

I'll share my charging chipmunk story over a campfire someday.

Thanks for all the advise guys, it looks like the VXIII is on top of the list and hopefully soon on top of the 7mm! The scope on the rifle is a Bushnell Sporter 3.5-10 45 and has seen better days. The rifle is in better shape than I expected so I am chuffed about the deal.

My birthday is soon so I've dropped the hint to my wife. One more question, I've found Cabela's to have great pricing, is there a better place ?

I like getting them from www.swfa.com

Their price is decent, but more importantly, their service is awesome.

Also keep an eye in their demo/used list of scopes:

http://www.samplelist.com/

this list is updated constantly. Check out what they have for Leupolds... maybe have a lightly used version of what you want at a good price:

oh, in case you change your mind later and want a Schmidt & Bender Short Dot, I am selling mine ... :)

Thanks! They do have the two I was looking at! I noticed they are listed as Demo B and I'm not sure if that means they are used or ?-mostly I want to know if thay are covered by the warranty.

I've bought their demo B before and it was what I would consider "like new in the box" condition. I never looked into their warranty, so I don't know. Give them a call.

Called swfa-the scopes are still under warranty but can't be sold as new. So it sounds like they are cosmetic blemishes or demo's. The guy at the shop recomended Vortex over Leupold so that through a wrench in my plans, I also noticed they have a Zeiss on the sample list for less than the Leupold...just when I had it all figured out...
