Scopes

Called swfa-the scopes are still under warranty but can't be sold as new. So it sounds like they are cosmetic blemishes or demo's. The guy at the shop recomended Vortex over Leupold so that through a wrench in my plans, I also noticed they have a Zeiss on the sample list for less than the Leupold...just when I had it all figured out...

I would buy the Leupold over the Vortex; I would buy the Zeiss over the Leupold.

I wouldn't fall for all the Vortex high speed talk that is going on right now. Just get the one you feel for.

sometime ago, Tony tried to convince me that I needed a 4-16x50 S&B. I went with the 3-12x50 instead, and I am happy. no regrets. In other words, don't listen to any of us. LOL

now, if you need approval from some guys you don't even know, then sure, get the one that the internet tells you to get: VORTEX.

Ho, the Schmidt und Bender 4-16x50 and the 3-12x50 are both awesome...but my 4-16 is slightly better ;)

I admit when I saw the Zeiss I got pretty excited and it looks like they have a heck of a warranty. If the glass is any where near as good as their photo lens glass than it should be a bully of a scope. I'm thinking the Zeiss is the way to go and I need to buy it quick before I my head explodes!

Ok finally made a decision-got my wife to order the Leupold 4.5x14x50 VX-3 with illuminated Boone and Crockett reticle, birthday is on the 29th so it will be then until I get to see it. Can't beat getting a $1100 scope for $629! Thanks for the heads up on sample list (swfa).

Leupold. I have used them for MANY years and never had a problem of any kind. I use them hard in vehicles, horseback, and carrying in rough country.

I use 4X fixed, 1.5X - 5X, and my old 2.5X -7X. By the way, a variable up to 14X is a beginner's mistake, and way too much scope for any big game rifle, IMO.

I recently purchased a Tikka T3 .270 and needed a scope. After much research I settled in on the Redfield 3/9x50 with the Accu-Range Reticle. This US made scope is in my opinion the most bang for buck of most any thing out there.

I looked at the Redfields as well and they are a real bargain. If I didn't find the deal on the scope I got the Redfields were near the top of the list. Same thing with a .270. That is what I was planning to get, one of the new Thompson's to be exact but the deal on the 7mag Winchester came along and I couldn't pass on it. i just got it scoped in at 200 yards and the trigger adjusted to 2 1/2 lb pull, she's ready to go now!

Thanks, I got lucky on the deal and while it's overkill for eastern NC there are worse things. I'm using 139 grain loads to chock it back a little and lessen the recoil. I just had it scoped in by my gunsmith and he adjusted the trigger to a 2 1/2 lb pull at his suggestion and it's nice. I had it scoped at 200 yrds and the Boone and Crockett reticle in my scope has drop compensation lines for 300, 400, 500 and 600 so I basically have no excuses left! Looking forward to deer season for sure.

In 40+ years of North American big game hunting under some terrible conditions, I have never had a Leupold fog up, break. leak, of fail in any way. All my rifles now wear Leupold scopes. I know many experienced hunters who will use nothing but a Leupold.
