Selection of parts sources to avoid dealer markup

What are you all using for factory parts & accessories?

I didn't see this in the Rover guide on Expo so I thought might be a good source of access

Ebay has some great deals many of which must come from Junk yards - Rovers North has some good deals when they have sales otherwise you might as well order from the dealer

Not sure if Rover accessories.com is still up or British Pacific?

I'll never go back to a LR dealership after my few experiences with them. For oil filters I use a Fram Toughguard PH8. I'm not a fan of Fram, but it seems to be the only thing I can find up here other than non-names, which I trust even less. For brakes, I went with Atlantic British and bought their standard non-butchered rotors and Ferodo pads. I haven't had to replace anything other than that in my 1.5 years of ownership.

I primarily use DAP Inc (been buying from them since '79).
Occasionally AB and RN.
I get a fair bit of stuff in the UK when I'm there.
I use WIX filters, AC Delco parts when I have a cross refrence number.
PDQ boxed Neapco u-joints on the Disco and D90.
Spicer on the Series.
I suppose a spreadheet or chart with cross alternative parts would be good.
If people want to PM part numbers I'll be happy to put such together, though there are a lot scattered all over the net. I know TAW has some, lrfaq does, and lost of others. I even have an old 3x5 index card file of domestic parts for series Rovers I started compiling in '74.

Go to NAPA and get their house brand. IIRC it is WIX or some other quality product - question them about it if uncertain. Don't run Fram.

I thought that was the case, but, IIRC, the last time I asked them they said it was Fram. Mastercraft are also Fram. IIRC, the Honeywell is also a Fram. Seems everything is Fram these days. Seemed getting a TG was the best I can do. At least they claim a higher filtering efficiency and I believe a silicone diaphram so...

We've had great luck with Trevor White at RovahFarm. Even with our stable, which spans forty years of production, he almost always has what we need.

He is also still a small family run business and offers little things others don't; for instance, on my 73 if there is ever a question I'm buying the right part he calls me to double-check, and he also sends my kids candy from the motherland when he's made a trip, even if it's not included in an order which to me is huge for customer service.

We've also done our share of purchasing through the big guys.

I've got a call into my contact at NAPA. He may be gone for the day so I may not have info till tomorrow.

The oil filter crosses to a Jeep 4.0L filter. Not exactly sure on years, but my 03 TJ had the same filter as a SII Disco. I like to use MANN and Bosch filters, although I have a nice stash of Genuine LR ones that I am working though. In fact, when working at the LR dealership I was using the Genuine LR filters on my Jeep!

I get a lot of stuff from Atlantic British- it helps that Eric lives 15 mins away from me and I can pick parts up at his house :) I am cautious of some things from there, however. I just had bad luck with a new-in-box Magneti Marelli starter that was defective. 98% of the things I have gotten have been fine, though.

Speaking of starters, I highly recommend www.britishstarters.com; this guy sells a modified 1.9hp Nippondenso gear reduction starter to suit the Rover V8 (among many other things) with a lifetime warranty for a little more than $200. I just installed one on my Discovery and am thrilled. I have never seen a nicer starter for the RV8- Mean Green included.

Confirmed, NAPA house brand is WIX.
