Seriously Considering a 2006-2007 100 series

Like going from a Fiat to a Subaru....nolo contendere

Are insinuating that Fiats are quirky?

CYK, would you do me a favor? Take your 200 out somewhere and get it REALLY dirty and then post a few pics of it here? There are a lot of people taking shots at the 200 for no apparent reason.

I'm surprised no one has really mentioned it, but don't forget to look at the Lexus LX470s. There were more sold year for year most years compared to the LC. Also, not much different equipment-wise between an 06 LX and LC.

What kind of Defender do you have? Before we upgraded to the LC from the 4R I briefly considered a 110. The LC is about 1000x more comfortable and reliable than a Defender! I can't imagine the time and money it would take to try and bring a defender to be roughly on par with a LC. That said, I'm now looking at a 90 to bang about around town with and take to the local off road park or out on some solo trips. The 'Cruiser seems a bit indulgent when it's just me!

The 06-07 is the holy grail of the 100-series lineup. If you can afford it you won't be disappointed. Depending on what you want to do with it, it might be worth waiting to find one without AHC (which means LC only, all LXs in those years came with AHC). If you are sure you don't need the extra hp of the VVT engine, '03+ will suit you fine. But if you want to build the thing up with lots of weight or consider towing a trailer there's no way you'll regret having a few extra ponies under the hood.

Surely even the new ones have a place in the world just that having owned two Range Rover sports (2011 and 2013), which is largely the same vehicle as the lr4, just much better looking, I am speaking from direct wallet sapping experience.

How would it be "wallet sapping" when they were both under factory warranty?

13 land cruiser or 13 lr4? Depends who you are. One will continue to build a healthy ecosystem of parts w a myriad of lift options which affords you a litany of tire choices, bumpers, have at it. The latter.... Crickets.

"crickets"? Name something substantial that is available for the 200 that is not for the LR3 or LR4.

I have a 110 Defender Tithonus soft top. It actually is about the most reliable car I've had in ages. So far, zero problems. This after 1 year and about 10k miles of driving. It does burn a little oil, but even when it gets low, it runs great.

So I have a 95 SWB Classic and a 86 110 Defender. Was thinking about selling both. Right now, I'm thinking about selling just the RRC, and keeping the Defender. Reliability doesn't seem to be an issue with the Defender, but noise is so my family never wants to ride. Reliability of the classic on the other hand is terrible.

The Defender is pure fun. Seats 10, soft top, looks amazing and is an off-road beast. 20+ mpg, but SLOW. If I didn't have kids, I wouldn't be looking at the LC.

I was under the impression the 200 isn't quite as off-road capable as the 100. 80's are even more capable, but they have a few reliability issues and safety is also a concern with the family. Still thinking 06-07 LC. I want a really good one to keep forever.

You should know by now that the word "capable" can mean different things to people depending on their priorities.

It was my understanding that the 100's torsion bars are actually more of a limitation than the current 200 series design. The KDSS system on it's own must certainly help the 200 surpass the 100 even if both of their front suspensions were the best they could be made into via normal aftermarket parts. Then you also have the CRAWL software and better frame.

There could be other minor factory specs such as approach and departure angles that would make one or the other "better" off-road but that only matters as long as no modifications are employed.

That 110 sounds like a lot of fun.

If you can swing it keep the 110 and sell the RRC.

My 06 is my daily driver and it has AHC. 275/70/18 Goodyear Duratracs.
I have an ARB front bumper sitting in my garage for over a year now.
Eventually will install it along with step sliders. Besides being my daily driver
it serves as family expedition rig. No serious rock crawling - that will be
reserved for my 90. I almost think with the Duratracs it is almost all I need. That's
why I am stalling on building it even more.
The defender is a great "ying" to the hundy "yang". I'd keep it for those times
you do want to venture off without the family.
