Should I sell my Taco??

A guy asked me yesterday if I was interested in selling my tuck.
I told him, "Not really. But if the price was right than, yes."
He asked me what that price would be and I told him $23,000.
After looking it over a bit more he agreed. Then I told I needed a few of days to think about it. I'm supposed to call him back on Friday.
I owe 15k on it but have a few grand in mods done to it.
I was kinda toying with the idea of getting an 80 series cruiser to boot.
Your thoughts?????

If this was me...I would do it...and get an 80 series myself:elkgrin:

Getting someone to pony up $23,000 for a molested truck with no work on your part will probably never happen again. Damn, where was this guy when we were living in Oregon.

Wow...It took me forever to sell my Toyota. I'd take the deal considering our economy and limited flow of credit available to people looking to buy...good luck with your decision.

If you can have money in your pocket from the deal, go for it.
80's are great adventure rigs.

You would clear about $8000. You can buy a GOOD used 80 for that price and take the monthly payment for the Taco and use it for upgrades.

As someone who recently "Traded down" myself (went from a 2004 Tacoma with 75k to a '99 4runner with 117k) I say do it.

I'm very happy with my decision. I only cleared about $1,000 after paying off my loan but my new vehicle was cheap to buy and my payments are very low (and as soon as I get some dental work paid for, I'll start paying it down even more so I can have it paid off by next year.)

Jump on it before this buyer comes to his senses. ;)

You are getting net $8k out of the deal minus the $ you put into the Taco you are probably looking at $6.5k real money in the pocket. To get a decent 80, $6.5k might be enough but that's not enough to cover the preventive maintanence and possible mods. With the logical side out of the way, if you really want a 80 then you know what to do...:ylsmoke:

I traded down recently as well and I am really happy with the deal. I went from a 2004 Double Cab to a 97 4runner, now the only payment I have is my mod fund payment! Not having a car payment is extremely underrated. I also had to take about a $500 hit to get out form under my truck. So if this deal is legitimate, :Wow1: just think, when will you ever make money on a car again?

I would do it ONLY IF I were financially strapped. But if I were financially strapped, I wouldn't be buying a 10+year old 80 series, either. Otherwise, you have a solid truck with many many miles of reliability. Same can't be said of the cruiser. The parts are not cheap on them, either. Remember they were $50+k trucks new. They're sweet, though, so good luck either way.

It sounds to me like you've already made up your mind.

If someone came up to me and said "Are you interested in selling your Tacoma?" - my answer would be "No.".

...unless it happened to be some random rich person that would be willing to pay me $35,000. That would be the minimum price for me consider selling. But you named your price, and he agreed.

How many miles do you have on your taco? $23k seems pretty good and car payments suck. Personnally I have not looked back since I sold my taco(at least the 05). 80s are expensive to get parts for, but so was my Tacoma and if your mpg is close to what mine were the land cruiser will be a nice lateral movement, maybe even an improvement.

IT is crazy how so many people in this world have different views on stuff, I love it! Unlike the above everything in my driveway and garage is for sale for the right price, and it is never anything unrealistic. If I can get my money out of something (and make a little bit ;)) I am ready to sell it and go on to the next thing. Only thing not for sale is the wife and the dogs, everything else can go! :sombrero: And I know not everyone think like that and that is what is cool.

I would never sell my Tacoma. It just has things on it you can't get anymore like a manual transfer case. One day it will have locking hubs then it will be 100% hand cranked. Besides, it wasn't that long ago the 2003-04 Tacomas were fetching a pretty penny on the used market, now I am shocked at what they go for. Worth more to me than what I could get for it.

Your boat? Sell it and chase the dream of an 80. If you missed the call, you can always get another Tacoma.
