Little update on my Tacoma...
Finished modifying my Leer camper shell. It was for a Ranger and didn't fit the cab profile, so I cut and re shaped the front corners, filled a hole in the roof, and made a recess for the 3rd brake light to clear. Then I coated it in Rustoleum Bed Coating because I wanted a durable paint with some texture to hide the blemishes, but not too rough like most spray on liners.
Then I installed my Bilsteins 5100's with a pair of stock Tacoma coils. I was afraid that an aftermarket coil would make the right rough so I figured id try the stock coils first. On the top groove I've got 2.25" of lift after settling. Much smoother than the worn out original stuff.
In the rear I built some frankensprings using stock Tacoma leads with some 3/4-ton Chevy leafs trimmed and stuffed in. I put them in and gained 4" of lift in the rear. I had to cut the tailpipe to clear the spring.
Now the shocks won't fit. So I pulled some measurements at ride height, stuffed, and stretched. Got some universal axle mounts and some cheap 10" travel shocks and went to town. I ditched the spare tire carrier and had to cut the tailpipe again even shorter to clear the shock.
Rides great, flexes great (need longer rear brake line) and should look great when I toss the 285/75/16 MT's on....
