there are a lot of really nice trucks in here. I thought I'd toss in a few of my rig.

'88 4runner when I got it - trans shot - clutch gone - no RF rotor (brake pads were squeezing the cooling vanes) - rear drums seized - wheel bearings shot - interior mildewed & wet (rear window stuck open) - rusted fenders all around - god awful conversion van graphics down the side

a few months ago - MarlinCrawler HD built W56 trans - Marlin diff armor - 4.56:1 V6 third members - home fab F & R bumpers - 32x10.5-15 BFG A/T ebay tires on ebay rims - 7MGE Supra swap - I think the platform is solid enough, now to start the fun projects . . .

New Guy

Hey all...newb on this outstanding board. I've been an advrider junkie for a long time and it's fantastic to stumble onto this great community dedicated to overlanding in more general terms...and with so much great info on my truck. I picked up a 95.5 Tacoma Xtra cab from some friends two years ago. It's been a great work truck and occasional long-range wanderer in the Southwest. I've just put some bucks into some OME suspension components and Wheeler's leaf set, but have yet to install it. After that I'll consider sprucing up my dented bumpers with some new gear. May I present the proverbial bad mobile phone photo:

New to the board

Hey all, my name's Kyle. Bought this 87 4Runner last January stock and have been slowly making progress to it over the year. 22RE, 5spd, 4" rear 3" front sway away t-bar crankage and ball joint spacers, 33" buckshot mudders, old man emu & rough country shocks, upgraded skid plates, flowmaster exshaust, lockrite for rear coming in the mail! Heard this was a good forum from a friend of mine helping me build this thing.

1988 Toyota 3.0 V6 4X4 Extra Cab SR5 Special Edition Sport Package

Everything above the floor boards is original Toyota Factory equipment except for the following:
Blaupunkt AM FM CD w/ remote, Midland CB, ARB Locker Switches, Shifter for 2nd X-fer Case, Alarm w/ keyless entry, 4 new speakers in stock locations, Blaupunkt Sub, Pioneer Amp, Window Tint, New Battery, Newer Exhaust System.

This has been a third vehicle for me and the first owner. It has spent the vast majority of its life in a garage. 300,000 miles is average for this year. It now has 122k. I hesitated to change anything about this truck from stock factory original for years. Then I decided to make some mods to it. First to be upgraded was the Stereo and CB. Then I became interested in Rock Crawling. I finally decided it wouldn't be too bad to modify it a little. I wanted to maintain as much Toyota appearance as possible but I went full on deluxe with the drive train and suspension! This truck is a very capable rock crawler and is set up for trail ridding.

This particular Truck has Toyota Factory options / features that I and other Toyota aficionados have not seen on this 1984-1988 body style before! I have called Toyota Dealerships all over the country asking to speak with the most experienced staff members to ask if they had seen a truck equiped like this. None of them had!

Toyota Factory Installed:
Power Windows, Power Locks, Power Antenna, Power Mirrors, Sun/Moonroof, (These features are not uncommon on the 4-Runner but not the Truck), Cruise Control, Intermittent Wipers, Ice Cold AC, Sport Seat, Tilt Wheel, SR5 Package, Rear Deck Light, SR5 Aluminum Alloy Wheels + spare, Toyota 4:10 gears, Original Paint and Decals. The original tool kit (rare), Jack and other tire changing tools, Owners Manuals, Owners Guide Booklet (rare), Haynes Repair Manual, Original 1988 Toyota Sales Brochure in New condition (rare), LoJack, Rear ARB Locker, Front Detroit, Original Double DIN AM FM Tape Deck Stereo.

Aftermarket Mods:
All-Pro Off Road 6" Soft Ride Lift, 1985 Toyota Solid Front Axle, Detroit Locker Front, ARB Locker Rear, Dual 4cyl X-fer cases, 4 Wheel Disk Brakes, REEL drive shafts, Custom skid plate, Disk Brake Parking (hand) Brake, Braded SS Brake Lines, All-Pro Hy-Steer Cross Over Steering, 1.5 wheel spacers, U-Bolt Flip Kit, Greaseable Shackles, Weld on Shock Hoops, 5100 Series Bilstein Shocks, New Off Road Custom Bumpers, WARN XD9000i, (5) BFG Mud Terrains 33 X 10.50R X 15LT, A 5th SR5Wheel for spare tire, Delta Bed Box, ARB Pump-Up kit, Tow Bar. This is a very unique and rare truck. First year of the 3.0 V6, last year of this body style.

Recent work:

New Water Pump, Thermostat, Coolant Hoses, All Drive Belts, Timing Belt, Valve Cover Gaskets, PWR Steering Kit, PWR Steering Fluid, Oil Seals, Intake Gasket, Mercedes Coolant, Air Filter, Radiator Overhaul / Rebuild, Timing Belt, Bearings, Cap & Rotor, Wires & Plugs, Oil/Filter Change, Steam Clean Motor, Cooling System Flush, Set Timing, All 4 boxes changed with 80/90, Fuel Filter.

This is a very rare truck and should be considered as such for the rare factory options it has, the extensive off-road mods, it's ultra low miles and great overall clean / original condition. It was special ordered from the factory with the SR5, Power Convenience Package and the Sports Package.
I love it!
