1998 XR600r Plated

I bought this XR600r in Michigan a few months ago. I have been getting this bike ready to be plated. I have installed Xr650 hand controls, A Baja Designs headlight (hi/low), led turn signals, Ricky Stator 200w DC w/battery pack, and a 50w 12" combo spot/flood led bar. Just need to finish the wiring.

Haven't been able to get out last couple weeks. It got very cold after we got a couple inches of snow/sleet which froze solid. So being bored and not to bright I decided that since today it was raining and close to 50* I decided that this was my only chance to get out. It was slick and slow going dropped bike a few times crossing frozen puddles. Wound up spending a lot of time with feet off pegs for balance and training wheels.

I gotta get mine running reliably again...... I rode it one day, then the next day it started backfiring when it warmed up. I think it is the ignition or something electrical. I only run racing fuel in it, and it starts easily from cold, even at 20F. She is rideable cold, but after a minute or so, she starts backfiring off idle. Since it starts and runs, and I run high quality fuel in it, I'd bet it isn't carburetion, but you never know, I guess.

sounds like your just having pre ignition issues that will go away when you stop running that racing gas, did someone talk you into running race gas instead of the pump gas the engine wants? or do you have some built up race engine that needs that juice?

Thanks she has been good to me. She is a little heavy but so am I :D. I bought her brand new in '09 for 5,500, Half the price of some of the the other dual sports I was looking at.
